by primarying Mario Biaggi.
Now in fairness Biaggi was a crook, but if you are against primary incumbents...

(54,330 posts)Bowman is under 50, has no experience in government, and had the support of lots of people who consider both to be overwhelming assets--far greater than all that cool stuff Engel accomplished and fought for.
Don't forget, it is far more important (and less work) to take down Democratic incumbents who have done good than it is to stand up to Republican incumbents who have done evil.

. . .in serving his constituents. . .first, last and always. No grand-standing bullshit.
Otherwise, AFAIC, he's merely warming the seat for Mario's grand-daughter, Alessandra (who is currently a NY state senator)
Just my 2 cents.

If not, why hold her linage against her?
On edit:
I looked up her bio and political history. Pretty solid Progressive, leans toward the AOC camp but had a fairly large role in Hillarys 2016 campaign. Used the problems of her grandfather to insure that she and her staff walk a straight line, ethics and womens issues seem to be her top priorities, then criminal justice reform and adequate school funding. Pretty solid democrat, eliminated the head of the IDC in the Senate with her primary win in 2018.

GOVERNOR CUOMO SIGNS BIAGGI BILL ALLOWING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS TO TERMINATE RESIDENTIAL LEASES
ALESSANDRA BIAGGI December 21, 2019
BRONX, NY Yesterday, December 20th, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed legislation sponsored by State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (S4281A), providing for the termination of a residential lease by a survivor of domestic violence. The bill allows tenants to pay rent, pro-rata, up to the lease termination date.
State Senator Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx/Westchester) issued the following statement:
The purpose of this bill is to give survivors of domestic violence the ability to remove themselves from a dangerous living situation without facing legal or financial penalties. It is imperative that we continue to eliminate barriers to seeking safety for survivors of domestic abuse, and expand avenues for these New Yorkers to access permanent housing that can give them the space to rebuild their independence.

(31,261 posts)breed of young progressive female politicians. She is around five years older than AOC, so pretty young. She already had a ton of experience in government, working in a district attorneys office and then on Andrew Cuomos legal staff as an assistant. She should be in the vanguard of our party for many years to come, given her age and track record so far.

(31,261 posts)New people bring in new ideas. People who are generationally younger bring insight of how the future should go. For example, myself as a baby boomer cant truly imagine how things 50 years from now will look, because I dont have the generational makeup to have experienced some of the things that will lead to that future. But a person who say is 28 years old should be able to marginally imagine what that future will look like because that person has experienced situations which will morph toward that future.
Seniority is a valuable advantage to have, but if a person has become stale and out of touch, then having a less senior person in place may not be as bad as some would believe. It all is a delicate process and people need to be careful when advocating one approach over the other.
Budi
(15,325 posts)That's the real problem.

(31,261 posts)Some old people simply become disinterested and should step aside, but a lot of younger people also suffer from the same affliction.
When I look at a leader, a business person, a politician, a preacher, I look at how effective that person is first. If they are effective, their age is not an issue for me.
