On Converted Republicans

If Obama showed up at a state dinner tonight and started smacking the Dalai Lama around for wearing a dress I would still vote for him in November. Hell, even if he said in a debate that the jury is still out on evolution I would still vote for him in November.

I would, however, probably stop feeling like defending that vote to co-workers and associates. I would stop posting triumphalist shit on facebook. I would stop talking at the top of my lungs about my political views in restuarants just too piss off the other side.

Romney is fast becoming a social liability. But in the privacy of the voting booth people do what they do.

He has surely lost some independents, which is what matters, but actual Republicans are not going to turn on a dime.

The best we can reasonably hope for from real Republicans is that a few of them don't bother to vote.

This was not always true, of course. Back when moderate Republicans existed they sometimes did switch. But anyone who has made it this far as a Republican isn't likely to be turned off by someone being a dick. If they were... what the heck were they waiting for?

Libertarians break from the fascists break from the theocrats. After that is settled, and we have true 3rd party right wing in government then we can break the left up too. Balance is key, but we can not let the fascists win.
