General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump lost his re-election in February.
Instead of heeding his smarter advisors on the right course of action, he listened to himself and the sycophants that reflect his worst instincts. Instead of seizing on the moment to be ~Presidential~ he instead chose to make cheap political points with the base in denouncing/minimizing the risk we, as a nation, faced.
In late February he was publicly calling the virus a Democratic Party Hoax. And the death calculus was that the real damage would occur in the Urban population centers, so that's why he wanted to liberate the American people from wearing masks. A few hundred thousand voting Democrats was no big deal to Donald.
But, turns out that Democrats are the intelligent party. They listen to the scientists and do the things necessary to mitigate their exposure. His voters believed his BS about masks not needed and various other snake-oil profit opportunities. Now they are the ones paying the price.
So he can't have his in-public victory lap/convention because he caused this problem and when his virtual moment happens, he's going to be trying to explain why he deserves another 4 years.
That's going to be a special moment in American political history. I hope the complete mental breakdown is Youtubed.

(268,949 posts)Meanwhile Biden wrote this Op Ed about the virus in January. Now everything the Con is signing up to shows that he's taking orders from Biden. It's hilarious.
the op's post is excellent

won't vote for him, publically.. How many that won't say so, believe the same thing?

(34,857 posts)The tape dropped on 10/7/16. On that day, Hillary led by an average of 44.1 to 40.9 - or a margin of 3.2 points. He definitely took a hit in the polls as, ten days later, he trailed 46.2-39.1, which was a margin of 7.1, but that's still less than Biden's current average lead.
Moreover, there was a hint in these numbers that Trump wasn't severely damaged by the tape. Overall, he lost 1.8 points in ten days off his total. Hillary grew her lead from 44 to 46, so, roughly the same amount. But there wasn't a significant break. And that was Hillary's highwater mark. By October 25th, her margin over Trump was only five-points.
But the worst wasn't the margin. The margin was a good sign for Hillary, however, her polling percent was not. At just 46% at the height of the Trump blowback, she still struggled expanding that lead anywhere close to 50%. Moreover, and I can't stress this enough, the total undecided/third party vote at this point remained ridiculously high. 10 days out from the Access Hollywood tape, 14.7% of Americans said they were either voting third party or undecided.
In the 11 national polls released since June 1st, Biden has hit 50% or greater in seven of those polls. Two additional polls has him at 48 or 49%. No poll had him at Hillary's highwater mark of 46% head-to-head with Trump during the Access Hollywood scandal.

Too much belief in our own mythologies.
The senate us crucial.
