what if he then resigns and Pence becomes president until January. Can Pence give Trump a blanket pardon for all of his federal crimes?

(63,901 posts)he won't suffer any retribution in the courts. He'll go scot free.
That is, if he is sane enough to do this.

(115,670 posts)Pence can't pardon him for state crimes, and I'm sure he's committed almost as many violations of New York law as federal law.

(63,901 posts)unfortunately, I am taking a pretty strong med to control my nerve pain (Pregabalin) and trying to think straight but am really happy discussing Trump's end.
What's the damage control ahead? Biden will have massive issues to deal with. Fortunately, for us he'll be surrounded by the best and the brightest and we have them raring to go.

(25,841 posts)strategic thinking. It's my opinion that he honestly thinks he's doing the right thing, the best possible thing, and truly believes that any and all polls that show him not winning in a landslide truly are rigged.
The real unknown is if people around him actually understand what the situation is, and could persuade him to resign at any point. There's a distant possibility that Jared and Ivanka could, but they may well be as out of touch with reality as he is.

(115,670 posts)or at least has decided he doesn't want to know the truth and refuses to consider it. He's always operated by the principle that whatever he wants to be true is true, which is one reason why he lies constantly, even about things that are easily proved or disproved. There is a certain amount of gaslighting involved too; but as to things like polls, his narcissism is so extreme that he probably can't wrap his mind around the reality that the polls show him losing badly. He is so obsessed with winning that he can't imagine losing.

(64,995 posts)Per this Ford's pardon of Nixon included crimes Nixon "might have committed" against the United States.
So, it appears a pardon can cover items not yet charged.
