On the now famous tape Mitt Said
The View is fine. Although The View is high risk because of the five women on it, only one is conservative. Four are sharp-tongued and not conservative, Whoopi Goldberg in particular. Although last time I was on the show, she said to me, You know what? I think I could vote for you. And I said, I must have done something really wrong.
What if you were Whoopi? A black woman who after hearing Romney speaks says, "Mr. Romney I think I might consider voting for you, after today." Unbeknownst to you Mr. Romney Recoils mentally and thinks, "eww I must have done something really wrong."
I have said on several occasions, I will not vote for Romney, because Romney doesn't want my vote. As a black woman, I identify more with Whoppi Goldberg, than I can identify with Mitt Romney. So I take his comments very personally. In my mind what he said was I don't want her black vote.
Here is a Man that whined that very night, that he couldn't get 47% of the vote. Now here is a woman who on the surface is an Obama Supporter, Older, Black, and Female. And she says,"I might vote for you" and his first Phuking thought is "I have done something really wrong"
He doesn't think, wow, if I can convience her maybe I can get other Older, Black, females to vote for me. But this A$$hole never ever wanted our Black Vote NOT EVER. And I am sorry but black people that support this man need to wake up. He doesn't want us, he doesn't like us, he doesn't concern himself with us, and if we ever approached him, all he would think is ewww what can I do to get rid of the Darkies who love me?
To me that's what his snide remark about Ms. Goldberg was saying.
And for that, I am too old, too black and too female, to vote for Mittens, he wouldn't like it.

His dismissive behavior shows that he is classless, racist, and simply vile.

(2,391 posts)Unbelievable.
Whoopie is too sharp and smart for him, so he pushed his donors' buttons by including her in his Straight From the 'Heart' speech. He's a tool. I loved Whoopie's response to him today. She's amazing.

Whoppie is smart and successful and a reasonable person.
Mittens is about bringing the old ways back, not moving forward at all. So forget about his ol' whiteness and leave him on the side of the road like a dirty shirt.
Vote the rest of those racist bastards out too.
I'm white, but I'm just as offended, because under my skin, I'm an uppity girl who takes offense to trash talk like that about someone I admire - Whoppie. She's got class, common sense and a heart of gold. RETHUGS like him don't deserve her vote, don't even deserve her to be THINKING about voting for him.
MAYBE, MAYBE he just knows what a punk ass liar he has always been and knows he never deserved her respect in the first place.
Nah. Stupid is as stupid does. Dogs eat their own barf because they are wrong in the head. Mitt must be like that. Just wrong in the head and no help for it.

(1,417 posts)Whoopi did not deserve that. I could see if it was some well known hateful and horrible person like a terrorist, a member of the westboro baptist church or a KKK/Neo Nazi person. The low blow on her was the most despicable part of it all, but I am not surprised by it. Romney proves what a disgusting man he is day after day.

(8,084 posts)What I am saying is here is a woman that
comes up to him and says after today I
think I could support you.
And his first thought is not, that's great! His
first thought is that he did something wrong
to win her support. That's just ugly. He says
he wants to be president but he would
actually didn't miss the support of a
potential voter. that is his first thought?
now yes I did apply it to her race and her
gender, because she and I happen to be the
same race and gender. and I have to ask a
question," how would I feel if I found out
that was his first thought, if I ever told him
that I might support him?"
and then his statement become even more
insulting to me.

I'm sure Romney would say, "I was only joking," and he would probably believe it. It would be interesting to see a clip to hear his inflection and see his body language. But the fact that it wouldn't occur to him that saying something like that to her, given his "out of touch white rich guy" reputation, only reinforced (and possibly even validates) that reputation.
It's like Bush's "joke" about the missing WMDs in Iraq. While all those inside-the-Beltway types in their tuxes and glittery gowns yukked it up at those photos of Bush looking for the missing WMDs under the furniture in the Oval Office, many of us who opposed the war see that as further evidence of his callous disregard not only for the truth, but for the lives of Americans serving in the military and the lives of innocent Iraqi civilians.

(1,660 posts)That's the only reason.
Joy is much more of an outspoken liberal on the View than Whoopi. In fact, Whoopi is probably not some hardcore progressive or liberal. I will never forget her and the whole Ted Danson blackface thing. She was probably honest about considering voting for him.
And yep Mitt is an idiot. A dangerous one at that.

It was a typical horrible mitt thing to say to Whoopi..he likes to insult people and countries every chance he gets.
I keep thinking he's going to be doing this to President Obama during the debates and PBO will politely hand him his stupid ass.

She has said this before on the show.
That would explain why she said she would vote for him.

She said she has paid basically the same rate over the years/presidents.
Goldberg said that the rich paying more taxes is not socialism, but is the American way.
The more you make, the more you pay and thats not socialism, thats not anything but the American way, she said.

(67 posts)You are quite right, Heather, but you don't go far enough. Whoopi's color is just the frosting on the cake, so to speak.
That comment about sharp-tongued women really hit me like a slap in the face: it was a complete throwback to my upbringing in the '50s/'60s when every time I defended myself against my brother's constant verbal abuse our Mom would pull me aside and tell me that I brought it on myself by being "sharp-tongued." Shit. Way to raise your daughter to be unable to speak up for herself or defend herself in the workplace, ever.
The Mittwit is a throwback to the 1950s. You really wonder how the hell his mother, who ran for the US Senate, ever raised a son like him.
His attitudes are the result of unquestioningly soaking up lifelong rich white male entitlement and privilege like they are his God-given right. His wife embraces his entitlement too, because she benefits by it. It saves her from having to think for herself.
When all the votes are (hopefully) cast, and (hopefully) counted, I hope it shows that he lost the female vote as resoundingly as he he's going to lose the black vote. He's slicing and dicing the population until there won't be anyone left at all to vote for him but rich white males (a low percentage of the voting population), poor white males so low-information they won't look past the (R) after his name, and flat-out bigots who still can't get over a black man being in the White House. That's really not very much of the population of this country, at all.
As for me, I am too old and too female, too middle-class that grew up poor revering education, to ever want to have anything to do with that piece of Mitt -- and he especially wouldn't like what I'd have to say about it.
Cheers, Heather,
