if they are finding they can't change the subject and just ignore him (which is quite likely the case), they may well sign on to removing him as the ultimate way of trying to make all the bad news of the last 4 years about donnie and not about the whole republican party that created him, supported him, voted for him, refused to remove him earlier, etc.

it really comes into focus if republicans actually do decide that want to jettison donnie to protect their own asses in november.

then it becomes a quandry for us. obviously, we can't be seen to be supporting donnie in any way, but if enough republican senators say they'd vote to remove him, do we jump at the chance and impeach him again, or do we say you had your chance, now it's time to pay at the polls?

personally, i think there are too many lives at stake, we'd have to remove donnie. but the political strategist in me says hell no, we'll take the landslide, thank you very much.

They must NEVER be allowed to hide or escape or try to deny or claim they “always knew he was no good.” Hell, they’ve been on their knees licking his feet since he became “viable” last time around.

No escape. This is the indelible mark on the soul.

26. Instead of calling for impeachment, he should call for use of the 25th Amendment.
Thu Jul 30, 2020, 06:05 PM
Jul 2020

Another impeachment that would result in the Senate once again clearing Trump would only result in Democrats being blamed. Trump has recently done and said crazy things, like creating a secret police force, attacking US cities, rambling about faucets without enough water pressure or bringing back old light bulbs. His tweeting about and support of irrational conspiracy theories should cause anyone with half a brain to be concerned. And now he thinks a doctor (is she really?) who believes in demon sex is very smart and fantastic. Normal people do not embrace the modern equivalent of a witch doctor. There’s plenty to use the 25th to say he is unfit for office.

In reality, Republicans might be better off with Pence as their candidate. Trump’s supporters might be angry if he is sidelined, but they won’t vote for a Democrat. But as Trump gets crazier and crazier, some of his less rabid supporters may move to the Biden camp.

Thu Jul 30, 2020, 08:57 PM
Jul 2020

The 25th amendment is only meant for a president who is incapacitated. All Trump has to do is claim that he is fit to serve, and them it would require a 2/3 vote in both the House and the Senate, which is an even higher burden than impeachment. I don't understand why people keep bringing it up.

And try to ascribe to the truth an element of conspiracy theory.

These are today's Republicans.

Blurring the line between fact and fiction is the hallmark of a fascist regime.

The right has worked for decades on dividing Americans into 2 pools and instilling distrust for the opposition to the point that many would prefer Vladimir Putin as President as opposed to Joe Biden.

COVID may be the deadliest virus in the world at the moment, but it's not the most dangerous.

The true danger rests in the conflation of fantasy and fiction over the radio and via the television and a Manchurian constituency that is as reliable as Pavlov's dog.

it's hard to see what hope we may have. The constitution shows us all the way, and yet we are in a position where obstruction and hard line defiance is all we see.

I must be wrong, for you know, reasons. Please explain to me why I am wrong and why everything will be just peachy keen in the future.

I will be very happily voting for Joe Biden in the upcoming election, but what does the future hold for our fragile Democratic republic? (yeah, I intentionally capitalized Democrat and did not capitalize republican - it's what I do). What happens after Joe Biden?

It is one thing to elect a monster, it is quite another thing to fail to remove that monster when it becomes clear that they are a monster.

This asshole should have been removed from office, and yet, remains in office. WTF? This system is not working. I see little hope of making substantive changes to it any time soon.

I'm afraid he may be right about that.

I'd say the only thing Calabresi is upset about is Donnie moving too fast. Many Americans haven't been "conditioned" enough yet to accept the programming. He's exposing the Federalists Society's real agenda before they're ready to spring it on us.

Let's be clear... this man is evil to his core.

The only reason he tweeted this was in the dim hope that the the rethigligan party can ditch trump sp that they do not annhilated at every level Pres, Senate, House, State Legislators, so that his party of criminals will suffer reverse gerrymandering at the state level and oversight at the federal level.

I wonder if he was part of the cash for Kavanaugh...

He got his unqualified, hack, rightwing politicians into judgeships.

Now, he knows that if Trump goes down very hard, there will be calls to expand the judiciary to marginalize the Trump judges.

So he’s trying to position himself to protect his Trump judges when all the dust settles. That’s what this is about.

Please- Republican judicial types don’t care about us or the country. They are cynical pursuers of power for themselves and their reactionary friends. That’s it.

They've gotten all the use that they can out of Trump, and now that the nomination is just around the corner, it's time to change the Republican diaper so they can pack it anew with the same old right-wing, racist sh*t. This is one of many right-wingers who intend to piously say that they were with Trump and defended him against left-wing attacks for years, but now that Trump has actually done something naughty, they must do what's "right" and get rid of him . . . in August . . . 3 months before the 2020 election.

They fully intend to throw their support behind Pence or some other Putin-approved, racist, fascist capable of dragging an ink pen across paper.

The Federalist Society is one of the chief enablers that got us to this point.

Sure, it's great that they are now aware that this administration is a monster, but these are the guys that sewed it together. And after Trump is gone, they will be robbing graveyards looking parts for their next creation.

had no basis in reason, fact or law ....

But Trump tweets suggestion of later election date -- already shot down by virtually all in the legal and political communities -- and it's suddenly hair on fire, "Immediate impeachment -- removal from office!"

Does this perhaps -- strain credulity -- teeniest, tiniest bit?

Wonder what their plan is now. Perhaps replace him at the convention. That would be very ugly unless Trump agrees to it. They could just let things go as they are and keep trying to further distance themselves from Trump, let Biden win and focus on 2024. That is probably the most likely scenario. Although in that scenario they could easily lose the Senate as well. Seems like a lose-lose situation for them no matter what. Which is wonderful!

He's not useful anymore and they're systemically washing their hands of him.

That's all we're seeing here. Defend, defend his anti-American stances while he served their plans. Then dump him when he's no longer of any use? They got their judges approved, now the Federalists Society are washing their hands of the fool in office. Backing away, pretending they're innocent in the destruction. No! They're responsible, culpable and need to be held accountable for their part in this nightmare.

Shame on them for ever backing him and allowing him to break our country just so they'd get their judges approved. The same for Mitch McConnell for being their lackey! It's too late now to "suddenly" see the light.

They've all enabled this nightmare for decades and this is your Frankenstein monster, put together of all the worst parts of your platform, personified and come to life. They own him. They created him and he is them. You don't get to back away when it becomes obvious to the masses he's a blathering fascist beyond all doubt. This is not how it works. He's now the albatross tied around their neck for all eternity.

He is forever theirs. They were warned and their hubris led them to ignore the warnings of sane people. Now they are here. With all the rest of us.
