https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/07/how-jared-kushners-secret-testing-plan-went-poof-into-thin-airMost troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushners team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically. The political folks believed that because it was going to be relegated to Democratic states, that they could blame those governors, and that would be an effective political strategy, said the expert.
That logic may have swayed Kushner. It was very clear that Jared was ultimately the decision maker as to what [plan] was going to come out, the expert said.
On April 27, Trump stepped to a podium in the Rose Garden, flanked by members of his coronavirus task force and leaders of Americas big commercial testing laboratories, Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp, and finally announced a testing plan: It bore almost no resemblance to the one that had been forged in late March, and shifted the problem of diagnostic testing almost entirely to individual states.

(12,286 posts)These fuckwits try to turn everything into politics.
A virus is a public health crisis and doesnt know if you are a democrat or republican.
But of course instead of trying to solve the public health crisis by listening to the health experts on how to squash the virus and return our country to some semblance of normalcy they looked to score political points and fucked everything up.
Greatly exacerbating the death toll and economic devastation.
History will never forgive these criminal incompetents.

(17,442 posts)They are evil incompetent morons. The administration did not care how many people were killed as long as they could gain politically, retain power and complete the destruction of our Representative Democracy. This has to leave us wondering how many Americans would Trump be willing to sacrifice to maintain his power, and I am not sure that there is an upper limit for a psychopath.
If Trump loses, we may face the most dangerous two and a half months in American history. Imagine the current president as a defeated, petulant, sulking, angry child, with nothing further to lose, who believes that the nation does not deserve to survive his Presidency. It is not too much of a stretch with this man.
When Adolph Hitler realized that the war was lost he decreed that the infrastructure of the nation should be destroyed in the path of the invading armies. He ordered Industrial facilities razed, bridges destroyed, mines flooded, food reserves destroyed, etc. His logic that the Germans were not worthy of surviving in a world without him in charge. There are too many similarities in the personalities of the two men to not look to history for a clue as to what is possible. While Trump could not pull of having the physical infrastructure destroyed, he could still do irreparable damage to the nation with the stroke of a pen, or words incautiously spoken.
We need to face the facts that Trump is insane and have a plan to deal with him if he loses. Perhaps the House should have articles of impeachment ready for a vote the day the election is called with the goal of the shortest transition in the history of the country. If Trump wins, then we will all lose for the foreseeable future.

(25,949 posts)Pelosi, Schiff and others surely have thought of this as well. Here's hoping they will act when the time comes. Dems have a regrettable habit of hanging back on these things.

(17,442 posts)does not frighten me as much as Trump. Pence will be looking to secure his tiny historic footprint, not on a rampage to destroy the nation who abandoned the greatest president who has ever, or will ever, live.

(9,263 posts)abuse of power aimed at states and the American people in our history (outside of civil war). Trump started with the "taxcuts" which raised taxes on americans in bluestates by limiting/capping deductions. The side effect? The higher income GOP'ers households in SUBURBS had their taxes skyrocket.
I wish we could see a policy that NO state can receive MORE in Fed govt monies than the state residents paid in federal taxes EXCEPT when a natural disaster strikes. I tire of seeing OUR Illinois federal taxes go to subsidize the majority of redstates.

(10,088 posts)When Trump and his henchmen thought the virus would be "relegated to Democratic states," and would kill off only certain people, his response was more than just an "effective political strategy," it was eugenicist. These people are nazis.

(2,657 posts)they could blame it on the blue state governors. Apparently, no one realized that it hit the New York area first and hardest was simply because so many flights from Europe come in to the New York Area, and none of the realized that COVID-19 would not just remain in the blue states. What a bunch of idiots.

(45,380 posts)The Trumpsters in my life are still blaming protesters for the increase in COVID cases across Southern red states. It's like after protesting outdoors with masks in every city across this country they must have all decided to go South for the summer to get some sunshine.
I've posted early on that they were trying to kill us in the cities with their do nothing approach. Lots of Freepers were boasting openly about liberals dying because we like diversity and living close together with public transportation and so on while they're safe in their big houses with yards. They severely underestimated the stupidity of their own people in spreading the virus while rejecting masks and social distancing and refusing to stay home.
If you look through any conservative forum or social media posts from March, you'll see them gloating hard that Chinatowns, Asian-Americans, and somehow Latino immigrants are the reason liberal cities got a lot of COVID infections early on.
