(5,506 posts)Who never closed the schools. They did much worse than their Scandinavian neighbors but did end up somewhat comparable to the UK and US in overall results (so far).
They seem to think that we could have gotten the same results here without the shutdown. As if a bunch of obnoxious, selfish Americans would suddenly turn into naturally reserved and polite Swedes just because they weren't mandated to behave.
I have a seriously diabetic friend who insists he wants his wife back teaching in an elementary school next month. Hey if Sweden can do it... I told him I was thankful that the County wasn't going to allow it because I apparently cared about his health more than he did. He thinks I am irrational.

Period.
Far too many Americans think they are smart. They're not. In fact, far too many Americans are decidedly dumb and ignorant.
This is the result of the decades-long attack on our education systems by Republicans.
Just listen to the public comments by people like Gohmert, Gaetz or Walsh. These are not serious people who have functioning brains!
Republicans don't want people to have the cognitive abilities to think objectively. People with those skills are able to see through the bullshit Republicans put forth.
Why is education elitist? Because it's hard work to learn. It's easier to fall back on one's preconceptions and prejudices rather than question what one thinks.
Republicans don't want to learn anything that could change their bigoted points of view.
