https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/07/trump-putin-germany-bases-bounties-russia-mueller.htmlIt was widely assumed that Robert Muellers investigation would uncover what, if anything, lay at the bottom of the bizarre and sometimes creepy level of deference Donald Trump extends to Russia. Mueller found some clues, the largest of which was a campaign negotiation to give Trump rights to a Moscow building project that stood to hand him hundreds of millions of dollars in profit at zero risk, and the secrecy of which gave Russia blackmail leverage over Trump.
But Mueller never uncovered the full extent of Trumps financial ties to Moscow. Neither Mueller nor the Southern District prosecutors sought out Trumps financial records or obtained his tax returns, Jeffrey Toobin reports. The mystery of Trumps solicitousness to Putin remains unresolved. And he continues to give reasons for suspicion.
Earlier this week, Trump announced a pullback of 12,000 troops stationed in Germany. He framed the decision as punishment for a long and amorphous list of offenses over a quarter century, including both unspecified trade deals and alleged delinquency on bills.
We dont want to be the suckers anymore, Trump said. The United States has been taken advantage of for 25 years, both on trade and on the military. Were protecting Germany, so were reducing the force because theyre not paying their bills.

(61,588 posts)After the Soviet Union collapsed, Russian mobsters flooded NYC with money, including deals involving real estate. Donald Trump was right in the middle of NYC real estate at the time, with his father's money, mobster and white supremacist connections, his stupidity, his gullibility, his inability to make wise decisions, his narcissistic personality disorder, and his apparent sexual proclivities.... this and more made Trump a good target as a stooge, a money launderer, and eventually a Russian asset. Putin owns him, pure and simple. Trump owes billions to Putin and I'm sure there are pictures and videos too.

(182,772 posts)Its been painfully obvious since before he basically bowed to Putin in Helsinki and took Putins side over his own country. Pulling the troops out of Germany is about the 12th instance of him doing Putins work for him.

(21,745 posts)Not that he sees that as a bad thing.
I'm still waiting for the details of the July Fourth weekend when seven Republican Senators went to Moscow for "meetings".
What went on there, and why are we not seeing ads about this?

(82,849 posts)Or would it be more irresponsible not to speculate?
Of course, speculation about something as picayune as the president selling out the country to Russia is nothing compared to whether Fidel Castro might be blackmailing Bill Clinton during the Elian Gonzalez affair. Now THAT was a national episode worthy of the darkest suspicions and the rankest speculation.
