(58,785 posts)While getting this for you, I saw a RW article pretending outrage back in March because AZ congressman Grijalva was calling for the National Park Service to close the Grand Canyon to visitors. A hospitality worker had already come down with Covid.

(8,261 posts)Members of Congress travel from High and Low Risk areas of the country and intersect at the Capitol. They then have the ability to contract the Virus and take it back home with them. Additionally, some need multiple flights to get to their districts further potential to spread the disease in all directions.
The House Rules were changed so that Members could proxy vote. They should be tested and if positive quarantined to ensure no further spread.
They not only risk endangering their communities when they return home, they risk spreading the virus to the staff, the police, the food workers, the contractors, the witnesses anyone they come in contact with at the Capitol.
They have the ability, they should start testing now.

(25,896 posts)Outrageous. This is in spite of a rules change that allowed for virtual attendance and proxy voting.
https://federalnewsnetwork.com/congress/2020/05/house-set-to-vote-on-temporary-measure-for-proxy-voting-remote-committee-work/ May 15
The resolution aims to reduce the number of days members of the House need to be physically present, and opens the door for committees holding virtual markups for must-pass legislation in the coming weeks and months.
The temporary rules change would allow voting by proxy, which would enable some members to designate a colleague to vote for them if they cant return to Capitol Hill safely to cast their vote in person.
This House must continue legislating, House Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) said on the House floor. And we have to do so in a way that is safe for all those around us.
