Sir Jonathan Ive and entire Apple design team fly to London to collect prestigious D&AD awards. Apple has been named the best brand and the best design studio of the last 50 years at the D&AD Awards, one of the world's most prestigious prizes for advertising and design.
Sir Jonathan Ive, the company's design guru, who usually eschews publicity, came to collect the awards, which were held at a dinner at Evolution in Battersea Park in London.
Even more unusually, Apple flew in its entire design team from San Francisco in recognition of the importance of the D&AD Awards and all 16 of them - 14 men and two women - accompanied Sir Jonathan on stage to collect the award for best design studio.
It is understood that Apple's design team have never previously attended an award ceremony. Their appearance was all the more notable given that Apple is focused on the global launch of its iPhone5, which hits stores on Friday.

(47,209 posts)Pretty much everyone I know who really likes their MacBook or IPhone does because their functionality and features. If you're not a super techy person, they are easy to master and a joy to use. That's product design.
The fact that the wrapping isn't as ugly as most other companies is just gravy. But I don't know a single person who considers it all that important.

(47,209 posts)more pleasant to use them. The phone has a lot of nice features and a really easy to use - and see- keyboard.
I have NEVER been able to figure out androids or type well on them.
My laptop has an intuitive functionality and design and I usually like the new features and find them easy to use when I upgrade every five years or so.
I work on PCs at work, and do my work on my MAC at home, and the Mac is faster, and more pleasant and easy to to use. That's no small thing. But if you've always had PCs, Im sure Macs feel unfamiliar. If you're techie, a lot of the ease of use stuff is probably lost on you. But I am not a techie, I just want to use the thing. Also, a lot of designers learned on them, and they cater to creatives in a big way, so that's part of the bias there, because designers appreciate the clean and easy feel they have.
