The Lincoln Project's plan for preserving the union: Drive Trump out of office by driving him nuts

Washington Post

Schmidt is the firebrand, furious and effusive. Wilson is shrewd and sly. And Conway is fiercely protective of the Constitution, which he feels Trump has repeatedly violated.

The three didn’t know each other well before December, when they founded the group — named after the president who “led the United States through its bloodiest, most divisive and most decisive period of our history” — but bonded over their disillusionment with Trump. Conway and Wilson were both deeply influenced by the book “Trump on the Couch” by psychiatrist Justin A. Frank.

“Trump is a narcissist and he cannot help but react to threats to his delicate psyche,” explains Conway. “He is a very sensitive, weak human being who cannot take criticism.” The other factor, he adds, is that “he can’t think ahead. He merely reacts to things. And what we do is take advantage of both of those psychological defects.”

What that means in practical terms is that the Lincoln Project ads are specifically designed to trigger the president. Whenever Trump is reacting to a Lincoln Project ad, he’s talking about things he shouldn’t be talking about. He’s explaining why he inched down the ramp at the U.S. Military Academy, or drank water with two hands. He’s shooting off a tweet about the “Mourning in America” ad, thereby raising millions of dollars .?.?. for the Lincoln Project.

HW Bush wasn't dumb, just not a good president. Ford...meh! Nixon wasn't stupid but he was a crook.

Eisenhower would be a moderate Dem today. He wrote this in 1954.

“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
And then there was his MIC warning to the country.

Hoover, Coolidge and Harding all fall into your characterization.

These are Eisenhower Republicans and absolutely would be Democrats today and it is happening before our eyes. Same way the Dixiecrats went to the GOP after LBJ and Civil Rights. I think we are in a big political realignment with Democrats seizing the center of the electorate

... they are going to usher in Dems from the president to way down ballot races.
But they are still the same Republicans that assisted with the Tea Party movement /scam, Steve Schmidt still chose SarahPalin as McCain’s running mate and wrote the talking points for that campaign. They oppose social welfare programs, they favor tax cuts for the wealthy, their “small government” point is a cover for removing oversight on corporations, they created the NRA monster that in reality has nothing to do with individual rights and freedoms but everything to do with Guns sales for manufacturers, they only push the “pro life” bs to keep white evangelicals on board, none of them are willing to reject Exxon in favor of our environment, they claim to honor free markets until the markets collapse on them then demand government bailouts and they will go to their grave swearing the oath that corporations are people too.
They are helping Democrats because They won’t have a party after Trump, and Democrats are the only hope for any semblance of a democracy to survive. But yea, I’ll accept their ruthless help, and a part of me is enjoying it.

He still hasn't gotten over the beat down that president Obama gave him at the correspondence dinner. I still say he could have a nervous breakdown.

…..and explaining their own strategy is at all helpful to ousting him. Trump is a dolt but Miller etal are not.

If you want to ambush somebody you don't tell them just where you will be hiding.

created by the cons so the pillaging of the US and all its assets can continue uninterrupted. Im only being halfway facetious.... there really is no limit to what they would do to hold onto power.

Of course we get rid of the most visible and objectionable piece of it (ie current occupant of the white house) but never forget that its the enabling by the MAINSTREAM REPUBLICAN PARTY that chose to ally with the white power far rw fringes and that put this creature in power and keeps him there .
