The economy was already going into recession in Feb, right now too many are giving him benefit of the doubt because of the pandemic but either way the economy was tanking.

The pandemic is not an "act of God." The NSC had pandemic experts on it to prepare for this. Trump fired them. We had pandemic experts in China working with the Chinese government to avoid a pandemic. Trump pulled them out.

The horrible decline in race relations over the last few years can, at least in part, be traced to Trump.

For the last 3 years, he's been dismantling all the safeguards the government has put in place. Something was bound to go wrong. Whatever it was, it would be beyond Trump's ability to handle it.

that he continually bragged about. But it was just a continuation of Obama's economy which pulled us out of the Great Recession—the DOW under 8000 to just under 20,000 when he left office.

It's fitting that the economy trump depended on for re-election is in the tank because of his terribly bungled response to covid which in turn cratered the economy and put 40 million out of work, not to mention the 150k and rising deaths. He now has to run on that.

Too bad, so sad.

But not by enough that they couldn’t steal it

The pandemic and economic catastrophe will wipe out all republicans.

2004 comes to mind. With all of W’s obvious flaws and so many raging against him, he still managed to squeak out a win. Now, Тяцмр is much, much worse but I still think if the economy was stable and there was no pandemic, he would be very tough to beat. Hell, I think it’s still going to be too close for comfort with things as they are. Acting as if he has no chance in this election is folly.

We have to win by ten to win by two. We need to get the vote out heavily to have a chance, no matter what the polls say.

We are still the nation who elected Obama president twice by large, electoral college-defeating majorities: WE didn't go anyplace.

And now we're the nation who overwhelmingly approve the BLM marches against social injustice, over 3/4 of Americans, which includes half of the right.

And, a half dozen highly accomplished black women are being seriously regarded, and accepted, as valid candidates for VPOTUS and POTUS.

The troublemakers are very bad losers -- and they did lose a long time ago -- whose reactionary acting out is being funded and promoted by Republicans and wannabe kleptocrats desperate to hold power and hostile foreign powers. Unforunately, too many of them are in law enforcement, government and the judiciary -- courtesy of feckless idiots who didn't vote to kick them out. But without lots of help from their "friends" right and left, foreign and domestic, they'd be muttering racist epithets to a few friends and mostly shutting up the rest of the time.

You've seen THIS Lincoln Project ad aimed at doubting conservatives, right? It's a hoot, but the LP guys know their targets.

but given partisan intransigence, Republican election theft, and foreign election interference, he'd have a real shot. As he may have anyway. Those last don't care about the virus.

it was all George Floyd, and Covid? I know that saying about how you can never underestimate the stupidity of the American people...that kind of amnesia is a bridge too far. Hard sell.
