Has Karen Bass explained or commented on her Scientology statement?
I really think she needs to address this even if she doesn’t get the Veep spot.

2. Ok statement. But insufficient. She needs to meet Leah Remini
Or at least watch Leahs series on what so many ex Scientologists have gone thru.
Or read any articles by the St.Pete Times (now the Tampa Bay Times) on the groups original (and current secondary home of Clearwater to Los Angeles) headquarters. If she did so, she would know that she did not sufficiently examine them before giving them that glowing public ribbon cutting tribute in 2010. They were horrible people then just as they are today. Where is their leaders disappearing wife? |

6. I'm not esp a supporter of her over the others, but she has denounced them, her comments came before
the entire expose' of Scientology had "broken wide," and she went on tv yesterday expressing her denunciation.
I think those still hammering this issue are at risk--however unintentionally and sincerely-- of doing the RW's hatchet job (and yes, once again, I support Harris over Bass, so it isn't that I'm biased). Just sayin. |

13. She has NOT denounced them, she's merely said she's not one.

14. Not true. She acknowledged she had been ignorant of their "behaviors"/reputation (to paraphrase).
THAT IS DENOUNCING. I am not in her camp and would much prefer Harris, but I can be clear-eyed about it (and fair). I won't be disingenuous about it.
“The Church of Scientology, I know, has made a difference, because your creed is a universal creed and one that speaks to all people everywhere,” Bass said before an audience of some 6,000 attendees. “That is why the words are exciting of your Founder L. Ron Hubbard, in the creed of the Church of Scientology: That all people of whatever race, color or creed are created with equal rights.” Bass said in a statement she was trying to find an “area of agreement” with the church, which has faced allegations from former members of abuse, human trafficking and intimidation. “Back in 2010, I attended the event knowing I was going to address a group of people with beliefs very different than my own, and spoke briefly about things I think most of us agree with, and on those things — respect for different views, equality, and fighting oppression — my views have not changed,” Bass tweeted. “Since then, published first-hand accounts in books, interviews and documentaries have exposed this group.” |

4. Yes she has, and so what? All things considered, Scientology is no wackier or disgusting
than anything the Christians or Muslims have to offer.

8. And how is that worse that the child abuse found in the RCC?
How is that worse that the imprisonment of women practiced by parts of the Mormon cult?
Give me a break. |

9. This isn't an either/or
Both suck, and both brands are built on a fake culture of cult, money and celebrity.

15. I've been by the Scientologist Gold Base a number of times.
It is a little creepy, camera's filming everyone who passes on the highway and large fences designed as much to keep people in as keep them out. I don't support Karen Bass for VP but I'm not going to say she is disqualified because she cut the ribbon at the opening of one of their buildings.
