CHICAGO — A Chicago woman who last month became the nation's first COVID-19 patient to undergo a double lung transplant said Thursday that she woke up days later, unaware about the surgery and unable to "recognize my body.”

Mayra Ramirez said that before she fell ill she was an independent, active person who moved from North Carolina to Chicago in 2014 to work as a paralegal. She said she had an autoimmune condition, but was otherwise healthy. She had gone on a three-mile run shortly before becoming ill and heading for the hospital.

We will go to such extraordinary means to save one life.

But we can't get people to wear a fucking mask to save the next 100,000

You ban be ticketed for not using your seatbelt. Those who refuse to comply put themselves at risk. People who refuse to wear a mask not only place themselves in jeopardy, but they threaten the lives of everyone around them.

This can't be left up to the whims of state politicians. Why isn't there a national mandate requiring everyone to wear a mask outside their own homes? Those who selfishly put their petty Republican political conspiracy theories ahead of public health and safety need a legal mandate with a substantial financial incentive to behave like responsible adults.

he got it.

I keep reading about these fools who get it because they take no precautions, since they consider it a hoax.
