I have high confidence that we Dems will win the WH and the Senate this election.

That will give complete control of the Federal Government to us, possibly for 30-40 years like what happened after the 1929 depression.

That is a good thing, BUT . . .

I also believe that the country desperately needs a two party system, a system that fosters debate of great ideas from sincere and heartfelt political beliefs and philosophy. Emphasis on sincere.

Why? Because with absolute power comes absolute corruption. Witness the last four years.

The Republican party went astray beginning with Nixon when the pursuit of power overrode the decency, patriotism and dare I say the oath to protect and defend the Constitution. It began with Nixon and was consummated with Newt Gingrich and the K Street Project. With Nixon it was power but Newt turned it into tribalism for the pure sake of us against them. Karl Rove perfected the tribalism by dividing the electorate against itself. He said, 'you don't win by uniting people but by dividing them'. Find divisive issues and turn them into single issue voters. GWB won by playing those who are 2nd Amendment absolutists that will vote against their own interests on that one issue. Same with abortion. Same with school vouchers and home schooling. Same with 'Religious Freedom'. Get enough single issues and enough single issue voters and history gives the answer to how it urns out.

Could that happen to the Democratic Party? In our hearts we know it can. Remember we were once the Dixiecrats.

So I hope the Republican Party is sent into the wilderness to wander and contemplate the future of the Party. I hope they come to grips with what they became under Trump, Bush 43, Reagan and Nixon. I hope they do some real soul searching and I hope they find what is left of their soul. I hope they find it and I hope they seek redemption by repenting and sinning no more. I hope they find that redemption and take their place as the loyal opposition when they do.

We may not want it but there’s always going to be an opposition. There will always be conservatives. To pretend otherwise, or that we will always be in control of the govt, is to live in a dream world.

The king or whatever he was set up a two party system and told his new cabinet they had to argue with each other — or something like that.

Anyway, we want diversity of thought. It’s healthy.

The Lincoln Project has openly acknowledged their part in tRump's success, and they have vowed to deeply examine just what they have done.

They will not rest until the Republican party has shed the odious elements that you talk about here. They truly want to become the loyal opposition. They have vowed to go and sin no more; I trust them. So far.
