Melbourne Au. virus update

This is the summary atop the live updates page.
https://www.theage.com.au/national/coronavirus-updates-live-victorian-businesses-subject-to-tough-covid-19-restrictions-amid-stage-four-lockdown-australian-death-toll-stands-at-221-20200803-p55i5c.html#p50y2u

Summary

Almost all Melbourne retail stores, with the exception of essential stores such as supermarkets and pharmacies, will be closed for in-person trade from midnight on Wednesday under the city's stage four restrictions. Premier Daniel Andrews urged against panic buying when he announced the finer details of the city's six-week lockdown on Monday.

The federal government will provide a $1500 payment to Victorians forced to self-isolate without sick leave, after the state recorded 429 new cases on Monday. Thirteen more Victorians have died from the virus, bringing the national toll to 221.

NSW recorded 13 new cases in its numbers on Monday, of which at least eight were acquired within the state. A Wagga Wagga family of four have also tested positive and will be counted in today's numbers. Two western Sydney schools have closed today after students tested positive.

Community transmission of COVID-19 has driven the possibility of a trans-Tasman travel bubble between New Zealand and Australia well into the distance, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said on Monday.

There have been more than 18 million coronavirus cases recorded since the start of the pandemic, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. More than 690,000 people have died.

Right now the Melbourne metro area is under 8pm - 5am curfew. No travelling more than 5kms from home (special circumstances for folk not close to food, pharmacy etc)

Masks compulsory in whole state. All non-essential business to close.

They threw in the worldwide deaths at the end.

We're being ultra-cautious, down here on the coast. But in a small town you get a feel for who's local and who is not and I'm pretty sure we have city refugees here.

Here's the latest, just posted on the ABC website:

Victoria has recorded 11 coronavirus deaths, all of which are connected to aged care outbreaks, and 439 new cases.

Premier Daniel Andrews has announced that people who test positive to coronavirus will no longer be able to leave their house for exercise.

It comes after Australian Defence Force personnel and health officials conducted 3,000 doorknocks of people who were supposed to be self-isolating, and found more than 800 people were not at home.

Mr Andrews said Victorians who failed to self-isolate could receive an on-the-spot fine of $4,957 and those who repeatedly breached the rules faced court proceedings and fines of up to $20,000.

"If you are supposed to be at home and you are not then you face the prospect of a fine of up to $5,000," Mr Andrews said.

"If there were particularly selfish behaviour, like for instance going to work when you have the virus, then there is the alternative pathway and that is of course taking you to the Magistrates' Court where the maximum penalty that can be applied to you is $20,000."

10. Thailand is in its 3rd month of zero local transmission

Total deaths 58

Not that hard

1) step one, hard 3 week total shut down food provided. Soldiers stop traffic return every one home

2) after curve is flattened to zero, comprehensive contact case tracing. Any active cases go either to hospital or government quarantine. All local transmission 100% stopped by May.

3) all cross border traffic stopped. After quarantine facilities at military bases established Thai citizens can contact embassy and arrange arrival.

4) all arrivals are met at they airport and taken to army quarantine centers for 2 week quarantine. About 10 imported cases are found in quarantine a day.

France no new cases
Spain no new cases.

That's what we should have done and it's becoming apparent worldwide that piecemeal, district by district half-measures just don't work.
