(23,973 posts)One does not get to be Senate Majority Leader in this nation by being politically naive, or ignorant of just how things get done.
Usually, they got there because they are the biggest shark in a pool full of big sharks.

(135,425 posts)He grew up dirt poor and tough as nails--just because he speaks softly does not make him a weakling. Also, he didn't become majority leader by being some sort of dithering schmuck--he was voted into that position because he is--and has always been--a very effective leader.

(23,156 posts)skipping the debate?
saw another thread here that said he might have to miss them if the Dems vote coz he don't want to miss a vote. Said he would try to get there but....
This is a great come back from Reid.

I'm just interested in whatever makes the GOP look BAD.
Glad you're here, we need you, and you know what to do.
Now get to work.

(65,227 posts)rambled and blathered. Besides, if Scott dodges the debate, he would deserve to be treated like an empty chair, unlike President Obama, who has obviously not been dodging his responsibilities!

(81,127 posts)I saw some clips of that debate. Even in short bites, he sounded like a surprisingly dim bulb.
I'm surprised that the people of Massachusetts actually fell for this guy. THAT is what replaced Ted Kennedy?????

(2,335 posts)I hope Harry has seen the light and realizes that the Filibuster's time has expired. Now it is a tool of destruction only. I will only accept a total demolition or at most a complete overhaul so that a real filibuster is allowed only after 50 votes are counted and votes must continue to be counted after 24 hours.
The meme that we will be in the minority one day is a canard. If we are in the minority in the future we deserve what we get. The GOP will get things done if they are in charge regardless. As early as 2013 we might be able to pass federal election reform, finance reform, unform voting standards, and immigration reform and a lot of other things that will insure an Dem majority for a long time ----IF Harry acts on day one 2013. Assumig we keep the Senate. Nothing gets done without the filibuster gone.

(328 posts)When the republicrats say filibuster, Harry makes them stand at the podium and REALLY filibuster!
Let's just see how long they can delay then!

Brown just needs to hurry on back to Mass. and face the music. Elizabeth is a small woman, but she brings brains and insight to this debate. She has a clue about what matters to the voters. Brown just thinks a big truck and a handsome smile is all it will take. Think again, big guy. I hope she cleans your clock, you big weenie. Fraidy cat. Scared of a little woman.
She is woman watch her roar! Go Elizabeth!!

My usually reliable source (my counterpart in Chicago) tells me the next chance to vote on it would be in March. Why would that be? She also mentioned that, at present, 36 repukes are opposed (we all know why that would be; besides the usual repuke obstinacy, radical homeschoolers led by none other than Rick Santorectum are opposed).
