Yahoo has closed commenting and replaced them with a link after the article:
Our goal is to create a safe and engaging place for users to connect over interests and passions. In order to improve our community experience, we are temporarily suspending article commenting. In the meantime, we welcome your feedback to help us enhance the experience.

Within the survey that takes no personal information, there is an 'other' and a comment box. I used it to state that I read the comments to keep an eye on the fever of deplorables.
There is a comment box after that for further input. I commented that they should link commenting to a verified social media account so that it would be easier to keep track of trolls.
Just sayin'...There is a survey after articles. Maybe people will be better able to give yahoo suggestions on how to bring comments back.
For me. It gives me an idea of where the trolls are.

The comments section is like a traffic accident. You hope no one gets hurt, but you gotta look.
