In its 2nd day of the school year, the Cherokee County School District (Ga.) shut down a 2nd grade

https://www.ajc.com/education/cherokee-quarantines-second-grade-class-after-student-tests-positive-for-covid-19/OTD5MJKSFVFXFGPMHXUBG3INBQ/

“In accordance with our COVID-19 Exposure and Response Plan, today we notified all Sixes Elementary School parents that a student who attended class there on Monday has tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first COVID-19 positive case reported among our students and staff since we reopened schools on Monday morning,” said Cherokee spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby Tuesday.

Jacoby said contact tracing was conducted, and all affected students’ parents have been notified. “Due to this exposure, the affected second-grade classroom will be temporarily closed, and the teacher and 20 other students in the class must quarantine for two weeks. The teacher, who is symptom-free, will teach the class online from home through our Canvas learning management system. The classroom will be deep-cleaned after school today,” she said.

2nd day and this class has to do at least 14 days from home online. So, 20 families (plus anyone they've come in contact with) have been put in danger in the first two days. School cant last at this rate. Everyone will end up online, just like we ended last year.

Altho I suspect school boards are packed with right leaning people.

Some teacher's unions are going on strike across the country. I fully intend to support that.

But I noticed that most of the kids appeared to be White, over-whelmingly so. So, is the county one of those really red ring counties?

We have a small version of that in my area, a community that is mostly all white, they send their kids to a private
"Academy".

All the schools that started under that concept are gone, we have something like four or five public high schools across the county, about twice to three times each that number of Pre-K/K-schools, elementary schools and middle schools. The private schools that are still open are religious schools and they accept all ethnic groups.

But her answer is so few children get Covid and the parents want us to open.

How many pieces would you take and pop in your mouth?

I mean, it's only 3%, you should be fine.

Now every day, reach in and take a handful. It's what you are asking families and teachers.
