The Trump Administration for ending the count a month early?
Or the US Citizens and Residents who haven't found five minutes to fill out the Census form over five months?

(4,164 posts)There are reasons for people not responding.
1. They don't trust giving the government any information.
2. Pandemic
3. Immigration
What have I missed?

(86,536 posts)The last one had a good number of nonrespondent follow-ups. I can imagine that it's exponentially so this time.
I also suspect that the prelude studies that should have taken place in 2019 were conducted either. They've been planning to mess this up from the beginning.

(102,225 posts)have to accelerate outreach to the hard-to-reach populations. ALWAYs. Of course the Trump administration you seem reluctant to blame--that wants no immigrant nor non-citizen counted and has made that clear for nearly four years now will benefit from the overwhelming foreclosures and evictions--that THEY are largely responsible for. Can't count those you can't find, now, can you? Those without computer access. Those without permanent or even forwardable addresses. Those hospitalized, dying, or about to be.
Yeah, blame the public. That's the ticket.
...have not filled out their Census form, using wifi, their cell phone, a mail-in form or a phone call. 40% have not been in an ICU bed for five months.
Plenty of blame accrues to the Trump Administration, but people need to do the bare minimum to counter his influence.

(102,225 posts)of those missed.
You seem to be quite out of touch. Maybe take a look outside NYC for once. And, yes, I DO know about the census, having worked on planning and completing it a decade ago! You, do NOT.
That you attach 40% of the blame on the public over the orchestrated attempts of Trump and his ilk to sabotage it is beyond explanation.

(102,225 posts)Easy to say everyone else is irresponsible. You and I and all on DU are not reflective of the country at large.
Those lacking include 39% or rural areas, 41% of tribal areas, 66% of US Territories and at least 4% of urban areas

(102,225 posts)and knowledge to actually KNOW. We ALWAYS have to do in-person follow-ups, that is unless you are in support of a Trump-favoring and manipulated UNDERCOUNT? So, which is it?

(31,981 posts)The US Census Bureau has statistical formulas they use to get to 100% of the count. When they have a certain percent of non responders they don't just say "Oh well, we tried". They used them in 2010 and will use them in 2020. These formulas will get them to about 1% of the actual number which is about as good as you can get.

(102,225 posts)I responded to you in detail down below, but somehow it appears you are not willing to educate yourself. You are sadly ill-informed on the current status of what is going on and however unintentionally, defending Trump's total bastardization of the process.
Having worked on a previous census--its development, planning, and yes, analysis, you are way off base.

(31,981 posts)an it gave me another 42 homes to go to today. We have thousands of people working in Chicago. I guess we are all part of the Trump conspiracy.

(102,225 posts)EARLY. If you care about the validity of the census, that should bother the HELL out of you!
So, DO you care about the validity and full completion of the census or not?

(16,685 posts)That a large portion of the census will always require door to door canvassing right? People aren't actually located at mailing addresses like PO boxes and if that's their only address they have to be physically canvassed and pinpointed on some sort of map. It's the same problem encountered by rural 911 providers and the issue Republicans have exploited in disenfranchising Native American voters on reservations.

(16,685 posts)Don't seem to realize they're also going to be short-changing the count of their own people in rural areas.

And no, you really can't get across Colorado or Wyoming (or Missouri, Kansas, etc.) in the time it takes you to drive to Connecticut or elsewhere in the NE since you will likely next suggest they just drive to their "nearby" Starbucks. .

(31,981 posts)that the U.S. Census has the physical addresses of every residential house or building in the U.S. The forms were mailed to everyone of those. In 2019 the Census sent out tens of thousands of teams to check addresses for errors or housing that was missing. Everyone got forms. They even do a census of the homeless in March before the regular census starts up. There is NO difference between this census and the one in 2010. I have worked on both.

(102,225 posts)with a world-record setting pandemic underway. Yet, your comments seem to inexplicably point toward a defense of the Trump position on this issue. That you seemingly don't know this about a census you claimed to have participated in prior efforts, well, leaves me wondering. There is nothing about what Trump is trying to do with this census that is "normal." And, yes, I know.
"Sad", as that particular politco would say....
former9thward
(31,981 posts)But you can't break down a door and order people to answer questions. You also can't get census enumerators to put them selves in situations where they feel they would be at risk. Maybe you should be running the census since you know all the answers.

And yes, I was involved in the planning and analysis of a prior census earlier in my career. So, your unwarranted snark aside, I'm not talking out of my ....
You on the other hand need to do some research/basic reading on the status.
