Vail is betting that disinfection technology will make school, buildings safer during coronavirus

I hadn't heard of this technology before.

https://coloradosun.com/2020/08/04/vail-school-synexis-disinfection-technology-coronavirus/

snip

"The specifics of the Synexis Dry Hydrogen Peroxide biodefense system, the proprietary technology tucked into 86 ducts in the ceilings and walls of Vail Mountain School, are complicated, yet promising. They’re also part of the reason the private school plans to begin educating its 450 students in classrooms five days a week later this month.

Although this building is among the first in Colorado to have the disinfection system installed, other school districts and public buildings are lining up for installation of the technology, too."

snip

" Lee served in the U.S. Army specializing in defense against chemical, radiological and biological attacks and directed the chemistry department at West Point Academy. He founded Lee Antimicrobial in 2001 — the predecessor to Synexis — to help reduce the risk of microbial threats inside buildings using his patented Dry Hydrogen Peroxide biodefense systems.

Synexis has at least 17 patents, including one awarded last month for a device that produces non-hydrated purified hydrogen peroxide gas. The system uses UV radiation technology, which is widely used in wastewater treatment. The Synexis devices can be installed in rooms or ducts and produce hydrogen peroxide gas."

We need all the help we can get.

And that if it doesn't work they don't try and do a Trump.

If you have an infected student who's not wearing a mask, and that student coughs up a bunch of droplets which are immediately inhaled by another student, what use is the disinfection system?

I mean keeping surfaces disinfected is obviously a good thing to do, but it's not going to prevent transmission is it?

The better question is what if any risks are associated with inhaling whatever it is they’re pumping into the air in the long term.

The company is purposely vague about just how the devices work but they use ultraviolet light and an air-permeable substrate structure to create the microbe-killing Dry Hydrogen Peroxide gas. The system requires air and humidity to activate the chemical process and is safe for breathing.

It's safe for breathing per the article? I have my doubts. I know when they sanitize masks with hydrogen peroxide, they then let them air out for quite a while to evaporate any residual hydrogen peroxide.

that if people are close to each other and breathing out viruses, those viruses can be inhaled almost instantly. People aren't getting covid19 from surfaces but from airborne viruses. Also, this process is described as anti-microbial, and viruses aren't classified as microbes - those are things like bacteria, mold spores, fungi and the like, which are living things. Viruses aren't technically alive in the same way, and have to be inside a living cell in order to replicate.

What are the possible side effects of inhaling dry hydrogen peroxide?

I hope it works and doesn't cause any nasty side effects in the process. And I hope it's not another one of these deals...

PHOENIX – Arizona officials have warned the Phoenix church that hosted President Donald Trump’s rally and a Glendale company about making deceptive claims regarding air filtration systems and COVID-19.

The state Attorney General’s Office sent Dream City Pastor Luke Barnett a letter Thursday demanding that the church remove any remaining statements regarding the CleanAir EXP system’s effectiveness against COVID-19 under the threat of consumer fraud litigation.
