Now, even more than during her first go-round as speaker, Pelosi wields more power than anyone in the Capitol, even Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). And with Pelosi in firm control of her caucus and Democrats poised to do well in November, there’s no doubt she’ll vie for the speaker’s gavel another, possibly final, time later this year.”

I think McConnell would give in on everything if he could get the liability shields for businesses and schools. But Nancy knows that the fear of civil repercussions is the biggest driver of some corporations being very cautious about returning to work.

13. She is our biggest asset, fearless and shrewd. She knows where the bodies are buried.

She knows what's possible and isn't - as when she told Obama that the ACA was doable, when he didn't. She delivered.

This is one reason why the GOP and many on the far left hate her. She's a woman of "an age" who doesn't apologize for being very good at her job, and she doesn't cower under their male disapproval like they expect women - especially of an age - to do.

Like when she tricked Trump into thinking that she wouldn't use what he told her against him. Like when she negotiates, LISTENS, and works to get consensus rather than using the usual male display of power, which is dominating and subduing everyone in the room to their will. She's accused of being "in bed with the enemy" when she makes the neccessary compromises to get results that would not be possible otherwise.

And she smiles as though all these men who are ranting "HAG" and "POWER HUNGRY OLD BITCH" to let her know she's "unlikeable" aren't really relevant. Much like Greta Thunberg got under their skin of middle aged RW males.

She is the model of effective power wielding that they don't understand and can't intimidate.

15. Pelosi holds all the cards, why not play hardball

The GOP will have a difficult time making a stink when they are so divided and torpedoed their own bill. I think many people felt like the first bailout became a grab bag for the rich and a lot of corruption took place. Holding firm to the $600, no lawsuit protections, accountability of future business bailouts, more resources for the states, more small business relief, funding the PO and election protections are all worth playing hardball on because they have broad support. Could it backfire like the shutdown did for the Gingrich GOP vs Clinton? Depends. We have to constantly be framing the issue as defending the unemployed, the victims of the Pandemic, small businesses and medical frontline workers and teachers against Trump’s greedy grifter big bidness interests and rank Trump corruption. So for the time being Pelosi should go full throttle Godfather II unless the political winds shift

Some people seem to assume that we always hold a straight flush, and all should never, ever back down from a call or fold before we lose everything.

Now that the Republicans have driven the country off a cliff again, and finally at last became aware of this deadline that's been approaching for two feckin' months, Politico is all concerned about negotiations dragging on. As Sen. Brown of Ohio said yesterday, he doesn't know what the Majority Leader has been doing for the last two months, but he knows that McConnell wasn't legislating.

The Democrats passed their HEROES Bill months ago, and the Republicans haven't done squat-ah. The only thing that's dragging is Republican feet in getting to the bargaining table. Millions of out-of-work Americans lost their federal aid because of Republican indolence, not because Speaker Pelosi is wielding too much power.
