For many years I've been a member here, altho I visit infrequently.
Always, when I want to visit, I put "dem..." in the search engine.
There's been no need to bookmark bec. usually as far as "dem..." in the search engine, this site comes up as a "suggestion."
Today, (with google) even putting in "Democratic underground", for 3 pages of results it did not come up. Finally I went to fb DU, and there found a link to the site.
This is pretty strange.
I know google, fb, et al, are doing a lot of messing around with various sites.
Has anybody heard of this happening, or any ideas what is going on?

(9,066 posts)What I find strange is that you could put 'dem' into the google search bar and get the site in the top hits.

(3,864 posts)so not so strange. Maybe they changed the way google works. It is strange that putting in the complete name in quotes doesn't bring up the site.
No big deal... it made me wonder about censorship, and all the stuff that google and fb do.

(9,066 posts)When I put "democratic underground" in google search with or without quotes it comes right up.
Have you cleared your browser history or cache and rebooted your computer lately?

(43,049 posts)that may be because it's looking into my browser history.
Google doesn't have DU on the first page at all
Dogpile has DU as third, under Demi Lovato and dementia.
Went to a different browser (Vivaldi) and searched with Bing and a whole bunch of Democratic leads showed up. No DU
Searched with Duckduckgo again, and DU stuff came up

I usually reflexively type in demo - and I accidentally clicked on something else that came up. After that, until I cleared my cache, Google wanted to to to whatver else it was.

(146,284 posts)Your browser keeps track of things like that. It knows where you go frequently, and suggests that site. For example, in Chrome, all I have to do is type a d and it suggests Democratic Underground. But, since you've only posted here 7 times in the last 90 days, your browser doesn't see this site as one you visit frequently.
Welcome back.

(3,825 posts)If you keep searching for something, Google may stop serving it as either might deem the result irrelevant or (for paid search ads) involved in click fraud.
However, you're talking about the organic search result, but something similar might be in play.
I'm not sure why you wouldn't bookmark it, unless you don't want the bookmark known to others who use the computer...?
