Why didn't the Dems take that one week deal?

-

Didn't the repubs want to do a one-week extension for the current Covid package?

I'm not sure, but do you think it was because the Dems didn't want to turn this into a week by week thing, or maybe there's another reason?

1. It was a trial balloon

After delaying doing anything for two months, the "one week" deal was proffered to test Democrats' resolve. If they had taken it, Republicans would just string thing along week to week, diluting what they were prepared to offer and trimming what the Democrats want. By refusing to slap a band-aid on this sucking chest wound of a pandemic, Democrats declined to bargain against their position and the American people.

8. What would a one week deal do but have us back to square one in a week.

Turning that down was the only thing to do. Best not to fall for stingy repug tricks.

It pisses me off big-time that the repubs waited until the last minute and are now blaming the Dems.

Assholes!

Seems to me you're both right, and I'm sorry, but it wasn't obvious to me.

12. Absolutely a week-by-week thing was totally unacceptable.

For that reason and because the rest of the deal was much less than needed or possible. McConnell could never have expected our people would agree. Instead, McConnell's now backed into a corner over a barrel and HAS to agree to a much better deal than he would have if he could have kept kicking the ball down the road.
