https://www.oregonlive.com/portland/2020/08/portland-protests-continue-on-day-70-downtown-throughout-city-live-updates.htmlWell there is too much to edit and quote on my cellphone but the rioting in Portland continues . The trouble has moved to police buildings in precincts away from the downtown area.
Rioters continue to provoke a situation by committing acts of vandalism. This time on police stations.

(16,078 posts)I can appreciate what the army of yellow clad mothers is doing but there are some instigators in the mix provoking things.

(13,807 posts)I watched the live feed, in real time. Police pushed hundreds of peaceful protesters up the street, and down the street.
It was ridiculous. The police looked ridiculous.
If there were instigators at the precinct itself, that did not make a RIOT.
The hundreds of people walking in the street, chanting, were not a RIOT.

(16,078 posts)everynight and a dozen up front throwing bottles, rocks, firework etc at police and trying to pull down the fence, break back into the building, start fires etc, what do expect the police to do ? Invite them in ?
Unless you condone the violence, the police have to react.
They would give fair warning and declare an illegal assembly over the bull horns. Then ask the crowd to disperse and stated that they would use non-lethal derrents if the crowd didn't comply. We know the outcome of that excersize, night after night. The actions of the few ended up impacting everyone in the vicinity.

(3,806 posts)Nothing but "concern", unsolicited "advice", and referring to protesters as "rioters".
Nobody on DU should take this poster's word for anything about what is going on here.

(16,078 posts)rip one off the building as well as attempts to break a window, pull off plywood etc, serves only one purpose to provoke an altercation.

(16,078 posts)I don't hide in my basement but I don't suffers assholes well either. This cycle is going to continue night after night as long as individuals keep picking a fight with the police. That appears to their goal.

(13,807 posts)But an instigator can damage a police precinct to elicit an excuse to declare a riot.

(16,078 posts)Their were individuals the spray painted cameras on the pd building, ripped off plywood and smashed windows the lit a fire in front of the doors. That is a riot.

(16,078 posts)Their were individuals the spray painted cameras on the pd building, ripped off plywood and smashed windows the lit a fire in front of the doors and then propped what looked like two by fours against the doors in attempt to l keep them from opening. That is a riot and downright violent behavior.
