Earlier today, I made some comments about diversity in the African American and Latino communities that I want to clarify. In no way did I mean to suggest the African American community is a monolith—not by identity, not on issues, not at all.

Throughout my career I've witnessed the diversity of thought, background, and sentiment within the African American community. It's this diversity that makes our workplaces, communities, and country a better place.

My commitment to you is this: I will always listen, I will never stop fighting for the African American community and I will never stop fighting for a more equitable future.

Joe has a tendency of speaking off the cuff, that has and can be distorted.

What Joe meant is that he's trying to appeal to Cuban-Americans in Florida and convince them that the Democrats offer more to them and their relatives in Cuba than Trump. He should have concentrated on that and not dragged African Americans into the discussion.

It was probably a bit clunky, but his statement was perfectly reasonable. Latinos are part of a much more recent immigration story, and therefore have much different perspectives based on their origin. I mean, who's going to argue that Cuban-Americans don't have different priorities and experience than people from the Dominican Republic or Central America?

Biden probably didn't need to focus so much on the contrast with African-Americans, but if this is the worst thing they can throw at Biden, it means that he's winning.

Hispanics ARE much more diverse. They come from many different backgrounds, some are white, some are black, they span the range of political thought.

This "controversy" is just silly.

Not personally, at least. There's always a half dozen staffers hanging around to issue clarifications, and when nobody's handy or awake, quite often the media "clarify" what Trump "meant to say."
