Why don't liberals continually reference noted American figures in its arguments...

... to not let the right wing brand us, especially in protests and debates, as just left wingers with no connection to mainstream America, or people on the political fringe? Especially back in the time of the Iraq antiwar protests (but also in the occupy movement).

Like for instance noting President Eisenhower's (and thus Five Star General Eisenhower's) concern for the rise of the Military Industrial complex and his speech on how military spending takes away from domestic spending, as well as General Smedley D. Butler, the most decorated Marine in U.S. History, who coined the term "war is a racket" and who spoke out against the profit motive behind war, and American fascism in the 30's (he spoke out after he had the last straw when big business wanted to use him to overthrow the American government since before he was admittedly used as a "gangster for capitalism&quot .

Or how about FDR and his second bill of rights speech, including the right to healthcare, employment, housing, education, and a living wage?

Or how about Theodore Roosevelt and the litany of speeches he has made against big business?

How about Kennedy's defense of liberalism?

It is hard to find a Democrat in office that is honest, caring and truthful anymore.

You should see the number of Jefferson, Ike and Paine quotes at occupations.

I've even photographed a few.
