Yes, both parties do share certain uncomplimentary traits, but they are not "the same".

Mostly because Republicans have had to allow evangelicals to set the social policies. Once upon a time country club Republicans were pro-choice and not particularly religious.
Now they are anti-freedom for everyone but white males. That's because at the heart of the evangelical movement is a core of white supremacist that seem to be driving everything.
