This is a POSSIBLE way to help the post office in the last two weeks in October and one week in November. I say possible, because there is a weaknesses I see in the scenario.
First, the plan: We can start now by marking the critical three weeks on our calendar so we can plan for purchases and mail outs outside that time period. In other words, how can we reduce the load to the post office?
If it's at all possible, we can also ask the post-office to stop mailing spam flyers to us. Or we can begin writing to companies to ask them to withhold those coupons and commercial ads.
Now, the downside. Just as I'm thinking about how to help the post office, you can bet that there are other parties thinking about dumping copious amounts of bullshit mail to make it harder for them in those critical weeks. We should at least entertain this possibility and not add to it.

The key to income for the Postal Service is more mail volume, not less.
It's like saying the way to help a struggling grocer is by shopping there less.
