According to Deputy Chief Tom Robinson, the Washoe County Sheriffs Office asked Reno police for help on July 26 to assist in a traffic stop. Requests like this are not uncommon, he said. When police arrived, they found deputies pointing stun guns at a 43-year-old Reno resident who wasnt complying with commands, according to this account.
Body cam footageostensibly from a Washoe County deputys point of viewshowed that law enforcement official firing his stun gun. He had moved around the suspect and opened fire, but he missed, and struck a Reno police officer in the knee, according to Robinson. That caused the officer to then shoot the suspect in the right shoulder with a firearm, according to this account.

In the coming months, the Reno Police Department office of internal affairs will review all relevant information from this case, and will make a determination as to whether the officers tactics, drawing and use of a deadly weapon, and use of force is within the policies and standardized procedures of the Reno Police Department, RPD Public Information Officer Travis Warren said. Those findings will be submitted to the chief of police for review.

The suspect, who was not named, received a non-life threatening injury, and was released from the hospital. The SPD cited him for reckless driving, and obstructing or resisting officers.

(1,304 posts)Of course it was a Reno cop.
I've seen their TV show, they're all goofballs!
I don't know how the city runs with them on the job.

(82,849 posts)Gee, nice to know that the Reno Police will be devoting so much time to their review of relevant information before totally absolving all involved, except maybe for the guy they pulled over. After all, he didn't throw himself in front of the errant stun gun round, so he was, uh, resisting arrest. Yeah, that's it: He resisted arrest!

(31,261 posts)I watched two police officer subdue a mentally ill man. One tazed him. The two officers formed a right angle, with the man at the apex. There was no way the officer with the tazer could hit the other one. The officer tazed the guy and the guy dropped like a rock, they were on him and handcuffed him before lifting him up.

(26,035 posts)What a bullshit headline. The officer didn't "accidentally" anything -- he deliberately shot the suspect under the belief that the suspect had tased him. The only "accident" on the part of that officer is accidentally failing to kill him.

(32,527 posts)Cars are dangerous and need to be regulated for the safety of the public. On the other hand so are firearms. So, why isn't the cop or both, cops being cited of reckless discharge of a firearm?

(56,358 posts)or even recognized. That really needs to change. What if that cop hadn't been tased, what if he'd just tripped. The response to a simple traffic violation was over the line and out of proportion to begin with.

(32,527 posts)About 15 years ago, I was at a flea market and was talking to an old guy. I noticed he had a cast on his left hand and I asked him about what happen. He told me he shot him self in the hand when he was cleaning his pistol. Then he went on to tell me he had been a NRA safety instructor for 36 years.

I've been reading lately about the phenomena of people believing strongest on those things they know the least about.
The little I know about safety devices now makes me believe in them. I still have that thumb and it works fine. But I do not override safety devices. Ever: unless its in the book in which case I follow the procedures and double check.

(32,527 posts)ban having a round in the chamber of any semi-auto until it is in your shooting hand and ready to be fired. Also while being stored in a drawer, glove box or anywhere else when not being fired. Common sense law.

(56,358 posts)was asked to show his new toy. He pulled the clip and cleared the chamber and handed it to a parishioner who checked it out and handed it back. He re-clipped it and released the slide not realizing he chambered another round. A second parishioner asked to see the piece, the guy pulled the clip and thinking the chamber was still cleared, neglected to pull the slide and the dope he handed it to pulled the trigger and shot an old lady about eight feet away, in the leg.
Does it bother you as much as it does me when a cop on TV sneaks up to the door of a suspect, and pulls his slide to be sure a round is chambered? I think I might have done that in the car.
I used to be so pro gun and now I don't even hardly want cops armed.
