(12,265 posts)With the newest research showing that covid can cause permanent heart damage, not to mention permanent lung damage I don't think he will go for it. Now, with that said, I have issues paying these multi million dollar salaries when faculty and staff are facing partial pay decreases and furloughs.

(12,265 posts)I don't think it will happen though. What is the Big 12 going to do, play all by themselves this year? Not going to happen.

Don't know the veracity of this report. Offered FWIW.

(19,035 posts)Make sure to let everyone know that there is no football because Trump mismanaged this during the Spring and Summer.
If all he would have done differently is advocate for mask wearing from the start we'd all be watching football this Fall.

Hope they are all glad that they listened to drumpf and rethug governors and not actual scientists. Enjoying spending your fall watching reruns of ten year old games you dipshits.

(14,853 posts)... others, like they always do.
I just saw several people on a sports forum denying Covid, or proclaiming that the numbers of cases and deaths are overinflated just to make Trump look bad.

(14,565 posts)I got banned on one football forum for emphasizing down the road complications, even among young survivors.
They don't want to hear anything like that.
This cancellation will be blamed on liberal mindset in universities across the country. Trump will seize on that theme and pound it nonstop. Anyone who believes otherwise is not in the real world.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,853 posts)It's been that way for years. It's usually not easy to notice it, since sports is often the focus, but the replies that I saw whenever politics was mentioned used to shock me. Many of the posters had SEEMED reasonable until then.
I think it has something to do with the mindsets of competition or cooperation. Right-wingers seem far more obsessed with competition, so sports might be more attractive to them in general.
And now that I think about it, I've always been much more interested in team sports. And I like to see teams that are well-coached and work together. So sports can indeed appeal to some people with a more cooperative mindset too.

(14,565 posts)College football forums are the worst. I am despised on those forums because I'm the only liberal who will speak up, and I can parry them easily.
NFL forums are somewhat better. I belong to one Dolphins site where the political forum has actually evolved from wingnuts to left leaning. But that is the only example I know of.
Golf forums predictably are overbearing right wing but most of them ban political talk. However, they will allow righties to make jabs but not lefties. I have received two-week suspensions many times for things that would never be noticed if sourced from the other side.
To my surprise, the largest track and field website is a haven for right wing nutcases, and they frolic there because the owners have the same mindset. Often there are more political threads than track and field threads.
I post on a swimming site that is among the best. There are right wing hacks, and they have been quite loud throughout. One of them stooped to making puppet accounts so he could agree with himself. But I caught that and exposed him. Overall it's the only sports site I've seen where the sensible comments outnumber the nutcase denials.
Buckeye_Democrat
(14,853 posts)So much for my hypothesis. I would've predicted that all of the individual-competition sports would be even more that way. Swimming can be a team sport sometimes, I guess.
All of my in-laws who push their kids into sports have been right-wingers too. I mean, the ones who really "get into it" and act like it's super important. It could be a meaningless coincidence, I suppose.
Pretty sure I left that very same track and field website because of exactly this. Nutcase is too kind a word for some of them.

To really add the real 2020 touch, she has to endure 2 weeks of dorm jail quarantine because Florida is such a hot spot.
I feel so bad for these kids. They are missing some of the best parts of their lives; prom, HS Graduation, senior trip and now the college experience.

I don't have much faith in southern voters, but it's not hyperbole to say that Trump will have killed SEC football this year.

(5,524 posts)That the initial word is that they have canceled it for the fall.
Smart money says they will still try to schedule for the spring.
