The U.S. imposes sanctions on a handful of Chinese oligarchs over political suppression in Hong Kong. China 'retaliates' by imposing 'sanctions' (ie-travel restrictions) on a hand full of Americans, including a hand full of FOREIGN POLICY PEACOCK Senators, who actually consider it a badge of honor. (Foreign policy peacocks being the more accurate definition of clowns who call themselves 'foreign policy hawks.')

List of Senators that made the honors list include Cruz, Rubio, Cotton, Hawley, and Toomey. As if China, or any other country cares what little Marco, Mr. Heney (from Green Acres), and Cotton-plantation Tom think? By sanctioning them, China has essentially given them a dose of STREET CRED that they didn't deserve. Like a half-assed rapper hiring a real crook to take a shot at him and miss.

But how do we know this is Kabuki Theater on both sides? We know because China has a BUTTON that they can push that would BRING THE U.S. GOVERNMENT TO IT'S KNEES, and they DIDN'T PUSH IT.

That button is named MITCH MCCONNELL. If China slapped sanctions on Mitch McConnell, and his wife, Elaine Chao (a legitimate target, given that she's actually a member of the Trump Administration) they could get ANY CONCESSIONS THEY WANT. Chao's family, and by extension, McConnell own the Foremost Shipping company, that does billions of dollars in business with China.

Seriously, if China slapped sanctions on McConnell and Chao, they'd bring the Republican White House, and the Republican Senate to its knees. The fact that they're not doing that is a big tell.
