Salt Lake police pin black man to ground, then sic police-dog on his legs while they sit on him.

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/08/1653587/

After someone overheard him arguing with his wife, the police were called to Jeffery Ryans’ Salt Lake City home. As a Black man who grew up in Alabama, Ryans told the Salt Lake Tribune that he knew to obey police instructions — but ultimately it wasn’t enough.

“I wasn’t running,” Ryans said. “I wasn’t fighting. I was just cooperating. We’ve been through this. We’ve seen this. Always cooperate with the police, no matter what.”

Bodycam footage shows Ryans kneeling on the ground with his hands in the air, but the K9 officer still unleashes the dog.

The footage shows the dog latch on to Ryans’ leg, all while another officer sits on top of him and handcuffs him. The K9 officer continued to order the dog to attack as it thrashed Ryans’ leg.

The dog perceived the man to be a threat and the dog was protecting the police who were only doing their jobs.

Cops don't care what kind of violence and abuse they heap on Black people. They just don't care. They have been given clearance from their lord and master - the orange menace - and that's good enough for them. And in most cases they are backed by their departments and unions.

Oh, sure, there have been a few investigations. But there are too many incidents now to keep track of, and they get lost in the shuffle over some new outrage - police-related or not. And even after the investigations and even prosecutions, the cases never go away because the convicted appeal or otherwise keep their cases alive, when all the rest of want is to get them in jail and then forget about them. And it doesn't matter whether it's moms and kids. The police will zip tie them all and hold them under drawn guns. And you know what? Last week's incidents will be subsumed by next week's cases.

It never fucking ends.

It’s not clear from the body camera footage who called police to Ryans’ home, but the man said it wasn’t his wife.

Police sought to arrest Ryans because his wife had filed a protective order last December and he wasn’t supposed to be in their home. Court records show Ryans is facing domestic violence charges for an incident that occurred around that time, but charging documents offer no other details about what happened.

Ryans said his wife had told him that the protective order was lifted, and he had been back in their home for weeks before the police were called in April. He didn’t know that her request to have the protective order lifted was still pending — so he was technically in violation of it at the time of his arrest.
