Have said the person was unarmed, but nothing on major networks.

Raw Story had a story up early citing CNN as source but I could not find it on CNN's site.

Inconsequential, I suppose, if the person appeared to be potentially reaching for a gun & getting into shooting position.

he approached a uniformed Secret Service officer manning a security check point, told him he had a weapon, pulled out an object and dropped into a shooters stance. The officer shot him. Not clear if the guy actually had a weapon.

"We heard one shot, yes," said Yitzy Landsman, who said is from Detroit, Michigan and said he is here visiting the nation's capital.

Landsman said he and a friend were riding scooters near the White House when he heard the gunshot. He pulled out his cell phone and started recording video of what happened next.

The video shows a man on the ground near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Officers appear to be administering medical aid.

"So what you're seeing is the guy on the ground, and it seems like the secret service is working on him, and you see the guy you know, jerking a little bit, and moving," said Landsman. "We just heard a lot of sirens and a lot of screaming from the secret service, a lot of people running around."
