Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority
I learned early on in my working experience that you want to be friends with AKA. Any new job Ive started, as Ive been introduced around the office I always look for the salmon pink and apple green. If they are AKA, it will be on display in some way.
I guess Id missed this earlier on. This is a big ____ deal as Joe once said himself.
Ive worked with several AKA members and had good relationships with them. I dont tend to have bad workplace relationships anyway. Its really nice to have them on your side. The wind at your back. I saw some unfortunate souls get into it with an AKA member and their experience was not only bad but didnt last long.
AKA????
if you dont think this had something to do with the pick you are crazy. Marshaling AKAs power is a GIANT plus.

(6,147 posts)AKA's have a long, proud history of social and political mobilization, dating back to the 1920's. AKA is either the biggest or second biggest black sorority in the nation. Every AKA is a college graduate. Most active AKAs are in mover-shaker positions. And they know a LOT of people. Traditionally, AKAs have a strong relationship with the black fraternity Alpha-Phi-Alpha, again, one of the two most powerful fraternities in the nation. (Prince Hall Masons are also very powerful.)
On the downside, some people consider AKAs to be snooty. However, I think you'll find that no one will hold Harris' sorority roots against her.
I expect the entire black Greek community to come out swinging for Kamala. Fundraisers, voting drives, etc.
I look forward to it.
Agreed.

(6,147 posts)She dropped out in 2019 due to lack of funds. It's quite possible that she could have won South Carolina and history would be different.
Even if the AKAs were expert fundraisers, they couldn't compete with the amount of money that was being thrown around last spring.
I think the key thing with the AKAs is going to be their ability to get-out-the-vote.
We shall see.

(128,872 posts)The black fraternities and sororities continue on with grad chapters with community service activities. They are the opposite of the "Animal House" frat party nonsense.
