This Photo from 1960 Dates Back to My First Presidential Campaign
I was a sophomore in a small town high school in California. That was the first year I became active in campaigning for a new President, John F. Kennedy. I was 15 years old that year, and volunteered with the local Democratic Party organization to do whatever I could to help JFK get elected. I arranged chairs for meetings, addressed and sealed countless envelopes, and met so many people who had the same goal.
It was an exciting and amazing time in my life. Now, 60 years later, I'm still excited about electing a Democratic President to replace the current Republican one. At age 75, I have less energy for the task, but still retain the same excitement about electing someone who can move the country forward, rather than backward. Somewhere, there is another 15-year-old who is doing what I did, 60 years ago. That high school kid has my full support and encouragement.
The photo below is of me and our family dog, back in those days. I scarcely recognize myself, since I have worn a full beard since 1969. It's a digitized version of a Kodachrome slide taken by my mother in our back yard. My niece just recently digitized the slide, which is one among many taken by my Mom as we grew up. My parents, at age 96, are still with us, thank goodness.
