I'm married, live in the suburbs, and we own our home. But I have a career as a lawyer, so I don't know if I count as a "suburban housewife." I'm considering making myself a shirt or button that says "Suburban Housewife for Biden/Harris" but I don't know if that term actually applies to me.

Your button idea is clever!

(11,605 posts)Every time someone made an insulting generalization about Obama supporters (or in some cases, about the kind of Democrats not supporting Obama), I made new buttons out of it. I had "Latte Liberals for Obama", "Prius Drivers for Obama", "Arugula Eaters for Obama", "Kool Aid Drinkers for Obama", and "Hardworking White Person for Obama" (after Hillary bragged about how hardworking Americans - which she then qualified with "white Americans", presumably to avoid appearing to say that black Americans didn't work hard - were supporting her over Obama in the primaries). I must have made hundreds of dollars off of Buffenbarger, the president of the machinist union's, diatribe insulting Obama supporters, since he gave me 3 or 4 different design ideas.

(18,040 posts)and I thought I'd share a story that I just read this week.
You may have already seen it, but it was new to me.
Despite James Hemingss leading role in Jeffersons kitchen, hes credited with only a handful of recipes.

(1,813 posts)The notion that Sally Hemings was in love with her Master was always an insane romantic notion to me.
My sig is an homage to her life.
No surprise that James was only credited with a few recipes.
I appreciate the story.

(50,957 posts)I too love the idea of Suburban Housewife for Biden/Harris garb. Though the term housewife is an insult to women and men who are stay at home parents or otherwise.

(11,605 posts)I did just that and I think it made the button better!

(15,501 posts)Every suburban woman I know works outside the home. The GOP made sure that most of them couldn't enjoy the luxury of not working once Reagan came along.
These idiots are so out of touch with the 21st century.

I'm GenX, we've always had to work to make ends meet. I've not a clue of the demographic he thinks he's appealing to here.

They are mixed and you have adult kids living with parents. You have both parents working and many families struggling
In fact many live in the suburbs becsuse they can't afford to move somewhere else more convenient for them.

(5,689 posts)I live in the suburbs. Hubby works. Kids are grown with their own little ones. I chose to not go back to work because I didn't enjoy my career at the time and never felt motivated enough to start a new one. I love being at home and renovating, rebuilding, recreating, our home. Housework - not so much. But yea - I never did like the term "housewife".
