Ethics and Honesty SHOULD matter
Biden is a good man who sticks to his word. He is ethical and honest and sincere.
In a normal universe our leaders ethics and honesty would be a decisive factor for many voters, but in this shadow universe that is 2020 we know in both our nations that around 40% could not give a flying fart about decency as long as they are allowed to be xenophobic haters of other. The evidence of the last 4 years is that people will vote for the very antipathy of ethics and honesty when populists appeal to their baser instincts. As Trump tries to steal an election and as in the UK we are about to have a no deal Brexit, ethics and honesty are desperately needed back in the heart of politics, but we need more than that. We cannot just rely on people seeing Biden as a better man than Trump - they already KNOW this, they need to shown, every single day, the desperate corruptness that necessitates when you give the levers of power and permission to fraudulent gangsters.
I was listening to a podcast today with Judith Butler discussing the 2016 election, and the politics of love and rage and how rage won. Trumps rage politics is faltering this time round. He cannot get the base ginned up the same way about another white chap of a certain age, the way he could call to the deep seated misogyny in a certain brand of chap against Hillary Clinton, so maybe the politics of decency will start to win the day again!! Because it is true that ethics and honesty matter in the context of governance and we have all seen how horribly and quickly cancer sets in when we are ruled by ethic and morality free black holes of doom!!
