NEW PLAYER IN PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS TO RUN ADS

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_CAMPAIGN_ADS?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-09-21-11-43-56

NEW YORK (AP) -- A new player in the presidential TV advertising campaign is set to go on the air next week in competitive states, according to several media trackers.

The Republican-leaning Americans for Job Security will spend nearly $8.7 million across six states - Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. Polls in each state indicate a close contest between President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney.

The group has spent more than $5 million on ads targeting Congressional Democrats since 2010, but this is its first foray into the presidential contest.

The group is categorized as a "business league" under federal tax law and so is not required to disclose its donors.
