Thank you again DU for all the kind words and well wishes.
After my last post, my son was discharged from the hospital after doing well after being treated for pneumonia and given oxygen for 4 days. Unfortunately he was only home for a day before we had to return to the ER. The day he left the hospital, his O2 sat on oxygen was 96%. By the time we got home it was 93%. I knew it would take some time to be normal but by the next day it was dropping significantly low 80's, at one point dipping into the 70's. I thought the darned thing had to be broken. I checked it against mine, and mine consistently read 96-99 so I knew it wasn't broken.
The whole time as it was dropping , he had no shortness of breath - He would say he felt very very tired. He would go from his bed to the couch and just lay there.
He was re-admitted on Tuesday. His O2 sats have remained steady while on oxygen. Dropped to below normal whenever they try to wean him off the oxygen. The pulmonologist today said he has significant lung damage. However, said he's young so over time, lung tissue MAY heal. So I am hopeful. However it may take months, years. Another scary development today - Hyperkalemia - High potassium - so now he's being treated for that.

This is a good reminder of what matters.
And we pray for you specifically. Anyone watching their child in this situation needs thoughts and prayers!

(5,004 posts)His experience highlights the importance of having a pulse oximeter. I have read many stories where the X-ray of the lungs look awful but the patient was sitting up or playing on their phone with no shortness of breath. Thank you for sharing his story. Continued prayers for a full recovery. 🙏🏽

(5,091 posts)He made occasional grocery store runs and went to pick up takeout from restaurants, so its possible that he got it from either of those places as well. But I tend to think the gym is more the culprit.

(5,091 posts)So thank you all again.
I am awaiting the results of my own test. I don't have any symptoms but as we know, that means nothing so I am still in quarantine myself.
What happens after you get this virus is a roll of the dice. No one knows what will happen once you get it, best thing to do is try to avoid it.

(4,969 posts)I didnt know what to say when you posted about your son previously, but have kept you guys in my thoughts over the days. The horror youre going through helped me tell one person to take the virus more seriously. I know that isnt much of a consolation especially for something like this in 2020. Nonetheless, I remain hopeful that his current treatments prevail and that he is soon on the mend.
May he and your family begin to heal
