Anti-jihad 'savage' ads going up in NYC subway

NEW YORK — A provocative ad that equates some Muslim radicals with savages is set to go up next week in the New York City subway system, just as violent protests in the Middle East are subsiding over an anti-Islamic film ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad.

A conservative blogger who once headed a campaign against an Islamic center near the Sept. 11 terror attack site won a court order to post the ad in 10 subway stations on Monday. It reads, "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad."

The ad was plastered on San Francisco city buses in recent weeks — prompting some artists to deface the ads and remove some of the words, including "Jihad." The blogger, Pamela Geller, said she filed suit Thursday in the nation's capital to post the ad in Washington's transit system, after officials declined to put up the ad in light of the uproar in the Middle East over the anti-Islam film.

Abdul Yasar, a New York subway rider who considers himself an observant Muslim, said Geller's ad was insensitive in an unsettling climate for Muslims

Doesn't it seem like the Usual Suspects have been doing all they can in the past few weeks to provoke Muslims? Could it be that, if they got even a fringe group to retaliate with an attack against Americans, it might stir the electorate to vote for someone "like us" who would promise to protect us, not the incumbent who might be a Kenyan Muslim who sympathizes with our attackers?

Geller is aligned with Boykin, Bolton, etc., all of whom are workking in the Romney campaign. Stirring up more mideast tension will, they think, lead voters to think Obama does not have a handle on the region, etc. and is unable to deal with an unraveling middle east.

...placed ads critical of Israel on buses here (in Seattle), Jewish groups protested and pressured the transportation administration to remove the ads.

So, equating Israeli treatment of Palestinians to war crimes is verboten, but calling Muslims "savages" and calling for unquestioning support for Israel is just fine'n'dandy?

As with the poster above, I support the First Amendment, but not when it only applies to those whom we like.

and change the tag line to:

and I guarantee it would be universally seen as Antisemitic.

The conclusion she draws requires a logical leap which lots of people don't want to make.

Particularly those of us who support both Israel and Palestine.

Letters to the Editor
New York Jewish Week March 26, 2012

To the Editor:

Pamela Geller attempts to change the subject when it comes to her own vitriolic rhetoric against Muslims (Letters, March 23). But let's be clear: Geller should not be allowed to get away with playing the victim and hiding behind the mask of a "patriot and proud Zionist."

Geller's self-righteous campaign to show the world the "true face" of Islam is abhorrent and morally repugnant. Geller, in views she outlines in her blog, has linked Islam to bestiality and rape of minors, compared Muslims to Nazis and asserted that Islam inspired Hitler. The Anti-Defamation League has closely followed her anti-Muslim scapegoating and that of Stop Islamization of America, the organization she leads, and has posted additional examples of her comments on its website.

Terrorism inspired by fundamentalist Islam is indeed a true threat to America, Israel and democracies around the world. But in directing her rhetoric at the entire Islamic faith — indeed, in supporting campaigns to suggest that Muslims should abandon their faith entirely — Geller fuels and fosters anti-Muslim bigotry in society.
