Karen Attiah tweet about Jacob Blake shooting - good observation

Part of what chills me about the Jacob Blake shooting is that it doesnít even appear like he was an aware that the white officer was walking behind him for several steps
with his gun drawn and aimed directly at
him.

Prey that doesnít even know itís being hunted.

2. Depends on what happened directly beforehand

For instance, had he been ordered not to get out of the car?

3. Then the question becomes whether Blake's actions justified deadly force

If he was walking away from the police officer, that might be difficult to prove to a jury.

5. If he was walking away from the police, he broke the law if he'd been ordered not to.

The police could justify preventing him from entering his car where he might have had a weapon or the intention to drive off -- the "officer in fear of his life" angle.

7. The fear for their life standard is why I don't think this shooting is justified

He was walking away and getting in a vehicle and driving away is not what I would consider a dangerous act toward the police.

8. Except

The cops are going to say they didnít know if he was preparing to drive away or retrieving a weapon from his vehicle. Not saying itís right, but itís their most likely line of defense.

4. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one

Was the cop yelling for him to stop or just following and hoping for what happened

6. No matter. Defying an order when you have no weapon and present no danger doesn't justify murder
