(20,568 posts)and it is a shame that media allows her - and pays her to express her pathological hatred. Children should be prevented from witnessing her mental breakdowns.
Early last year, she was on the round table (!) on This Week. While Paul Krugman was talking, rhey cut to a shot of Malkin. I thought she was gonna leap across the table with a machete and stab him.

(8,170 posts)I realise that not everyone will find the OP title offensive, which is why I did not alert but just put a note in thread.
The problem is that the OP title is, in essence, "Man nails woman", at which point I would expect the insensitive to make some jokes on the lines of "But are you sure Michelle is a woman??". There could then be a long and involved argument about the use of seemingly inoffensive words but what it boils down to is that there are other ways of phrasing the OP title that do not risk offense; for example the simple change to "David Frum nails Malkin's Bigotry" would be sufficient.

(8,170 posts)I also recognise that there are many people who do not see this; not because of any lack of empathy but because they cannot see the implications for more sensitive or vulnerable people. Precisely because I am not affected by such phrasings (my reply #11) I have had to teach myself to be more aware of how insulting such things can be. Before you go searching there have been times when I have got it wrong.
None of us are telepaths nor are we precogniscent therefore it is incumbent on us to be clear and generous
BTW the jury system is pretty much a lottery on cases like this.

(27,630 posts)You think DUers are too immature to see past the wording of the title? And if some nitwit does make a Beavis & Butthead comment, will the rest of us be too fragile to go on with our day? Please, someone think of the children!

(8,170 posts)You may not think taking care about this is possible, but I do.
There are many people you would regard as "immature" or "overly sensitive" and some of them are regular posters. This thread title does not affect me (I am male) but I am adult enough to recognise how easy it is to insult or belittle others. If you think double entendres such as this are permissible I would be fascinated to see your response to the blog post Schrödingers Rapist http://kateharding.net/2009/10/08/guest-blogger-starling-schrodingers-rapist-or-a-guys-guide-to-approaching-strange-women-without-being-maced/

(27,630 posts)The double entendre did cross my mind, but, there are seemingly double entendres all day long that mature adults can register in their minds without being distracted by them. I usually make a quick mental note of it, and assess whether it is relevant or not. In this case, "nailed" is completely irrelevant, and is probably just an accidentally poor choice of words.
Teenagers get distracted by double entendres. Bevis and Butthead is kind of classic! Teenagers find sexual meanings when there are none, and yet they often miss the subtle, intentional sexual context. I worked with teenagers enough to know this.
The thread title does not affect me either, and I am female. I don't need any advice how to avoid coming across as a rapist, LOL.
