(8,434 posts)I won't ever by another gas powered Craftsman tool.
As for their tools now, you have to be careful. They don't necessarily have a lifetime warranty. Not sure who bought what, but you can also get Craftsman tools in Kmart as well now.
I generally find that the overall quality has gone in the crapper. returned a ratchet a few months ago. I've used it three times and it's already falling apart again.

(17,644 posts)and thanks to Wall st. for manipulating the price of raw materials in the USA. The Chinese can produce the part cheaper then our american manufactures can buy the raw materials to manufacture the part.
Wall St. did for metals the same thing they did to the cost of a barrel of oil but no body said nothing about it because the average american citizen doesn't go buying several tons of Aluminum ingots every day

(67,105 posts)a couple of Ryobi power tools for limited use and they were great, but that's a few years back. I did buy a craftsman hammer drill, large one, about 12 years ago and it's been great. Growing up I always bought Craftsman, they were legendary. I haven't been buying many tools anymore, I have enough to fill my garage and part of my basement. Now I've been trying to downsize wondering why did I ever by this. LOL

(2,667 posts)They are really bottom basement junk now days for the most part - and that description covers any and all of their power tools, which are about the worst of the worst.

(67,105 posts)the crap we get from China. The Chinese know how to make quality products, but what I've heard is the US buyers(corps.) insist on such low cost items, that the only thing they can supply is cheap crap. So, we get hit both ways by the corporate hoodlums, jobs shipped off shore and also crap shipped here.

(20,577 posts)Danaher is a holding company that does the same thing as private equity firms such as Bain.
They have purchased lots of companies and sent the work to China.

(33,224 posts)Snap on is ridiculously overpriced. Craftsman hand tools were good USA made tools for a pretty fair price.
Crap. Fuck Bain.
