When Branstad was Iowa governor I believe he hosted Xi on more than one trip to Iowa to establish trade mainly for soybeans. As a result of that "friendship" Dump made him Ambassador to China which he still is, though I haven't heard anything about him since Dump started the trade war and China looked elsewhere for soybeans. I suspect some Iowa farmers may be concerned that that gigantic soybean market may be gone for good if China finds other suppliers.

Branstad? You there, Terry? You gonna stay with Dump and betray Iowa's farmers?

Iowa's once somewhat progressive values, is now a pretty shitty place outside the college towns. Shitty as in Roundup ready GMO crops everywhere, factory farms, and very little non-farmed green spaces. It's a shadow of a State once a proud solid common sense place. In the 80's Limbaugh blasted fat but entertaining lies on all the big stations out of Des Moines and Cedar Rapids, laying waste to the minds of those unfortunate enough find little else on the dial.

Reality TV and FOX noise flooded into nighttime viewing and swept the last brain cells into the Con job to the satisfaction of the super wealthy elites. Mind control complete, they are left to their soft mushy bodies, not doing physical labor like their fathers, but riding atop air conditioned GPS-guided half-million dollar machines in fields of 1000 acres of wasteland. Their is little redeeming in Iowa outside a few cultural centers. God help them all.

I moved back here after being gone for 10 years and its become North Kansas or East Dakota. Nothing progressive going on and today's announcement of 100M for farmers is a distraction that Trump didn't sign the entire disaster declaration. Funny how everything about Ag has become corporate welfare but the morons "don't" want socialism.

I returned to my beloved State of Iowa awhile back and was accosted by my younger brother about my liberal ways (to them anyways). I came to realize all my family was in a black hole of know-nothingism-Limbaugh-FOX hell. Racist, bigoted, uneducated (but smart in a way), I have RARELY spoken to any of them in decade. We used to be a loving close family. Thanks CONS.

Apparently trump has not put any effort into relief for individual citizens and farmers.

[more leading in] But, in fact, he approved only about $45 million in aid to repair government buildings and utilities and remove debris from them. He did not fund assistance for homeowners or farmers. This appears to reflect the Republican conviction that the federal government has no role to play in providing a safety net for individuals.

Gov. Kim Reynolds' request for $82.7 million to cover the 8,273 homes that were damaged or destroyed was not approved. Neither were her requests for $3.77 billion for agriculture damage to farm land, grain bins and buildings and $100 million for private utilities repair.
