How do I tell which ones are blue? I mean this, we vote every day with our dollars and I cannot see helping a company that doesn't have my interests at heart with the dollars I pay them.
There was a DUer who linked to a window company in their neighborhood where they had posted derogatory signs about President Obama. How do you tell if they aren't that brazen?

(3,419 posts)I never put any stickers on my truck or tell any homeowner what party I vote for. But if a homeowner asks me I will tell them and I have had some great conversations with some and had to bite my tongue on other occasions. Just ask them is all you can do.

(36,814 posts)I just haven't found any with a fish on the their truck that was that way. I suspect that if you feel the need to use god to advertise your business, you probably don't have much merit of your own to work with.

(2,049 posts)I had a roof done recently and i would have liked to have been able to "network" with a like-minded company. There used to be a website, buyblue.org, that served that purpose, but no more. I guess try the opensecrets site mentioned up thread. I intend to do so myself as I have a dead tree that i need to have taken down and the old lady won't let me try to do it myself!

Could it be your old lady likes living in houses that don't have fallen trees on them?
Take it from me, any reasonable sized tree isn't something that an amateur should tangle with. If a tree trunk is more that six inches in diameter, hire a pro.

(10,942 posts)They will be able to tell you which contractors work best with unions. Contractors that work well with unions at least accept union's positive impact on middle-class upward mobility, even if they personally vote republican. Like someone else pointed out, try to find political contributions contractors that your local union point out is good have made. Use the ones that make no contributions or contribute to democrats, or are at the least balanced in their contributions.

(19,339 posts)Doesn't mean they're blue, but for us, as long as the people doing the work are getting a fair share, sometimes that's the best you can do.

(1,191 posts)If you start asking contractors what the political beliefs are before you hire them, they are going to think your nuts, can't say as I would blame them. So that's not a great option.
Your other option is to hire a union contractor, problem with that is they cost big $$, maybe your rich and don't care. And, there could be some closet republicans on the crew. You could tell the boss you only want dems on the job, but that brings us back to my first point.
A good contractor is very difficult to find, ask anyone who has dealt with them in the past. To add to your list of wants in a choosing a contractor to trust with your home, that they are true blue democrats, is going to make this task even more difficult.
good luck! and remember, never give a big deposit before work starts.
