The reason the GOP is going down is not because of Mitt, it's because of Faux.
If I was a Republican, what I would be upset about is Fox News. Not Romney.
They have spent a decade plus of doing nothing but selling fear and hate. They tell their viewers that Fox is the only network they can trust to get the News. People believe that, so that is why there is such a disconnect when a story like the New Black Panthers becomes such a HUGE story to that part of the population, all while the rest of the population laughs at them - knowing that the New Black Panthers consist of less than 10 guys who are no scarier than any other gang & have nothing, nothing to do with the Black Panthers of the 60s. But - oh - that image of scary black guys when there is a black guy in the Oval Office is priceless to their narrative. It seems like their only purpose is to invoke fear into the people that watch. Fear of the black man, fear of the immigrant from Mexico (while never mentioning immigrants from our Northern Border); fear of Muslims; fear of healthcare; fear of everything except the white man and corporate power. They have fined tuned their message so perfectly that their viewers believe it all is true. Their constant divisiveness and negativity has made it possible for people like Michelle Bachmann to become popular, Sarah Palin to become an icon, Joe Walsh and Todd Akin to be representatives in Congress. They say it's okay to kill doctors that perform abortions EVEN tho they are LEGAL. Rage against birth control. It's even okay to say that there is a war on Christmas - hahaha...in August the stores were putting Christmas decorations up - some war! But the sad thing is that people believe it, people actually walk our streets and believe their is a war on Christmas - and these same people have the proper id needed to vote. Fox news has steered the GOP so far to the right, so deep in fear & bs that the only candidate who actually could've made the President sweat was ignored - Jon Huntsman. Instead - the GOP went for the crazies. Donald Trump, 999 Pizzas, Santorum, and batshit crazy Bachmann ALL became exciting candidates to these people who have been brainwashed into believing that greed is good, a community organizer is bad and that it is more important for businesses to be profitable than to have clean drinking water and clean air to breathe. They were all orgasmic over Mitt picking Paul Ryan for his running mate - a man that worships Ayn Rand. They have whipped up their viewers into a frenzy where common sense no longer prevails. Until the GOP changes their message from who or what to be afraid of - and starts delivering a message of hope - stick a fork in them, they are done. This country wants to move forward in the real world. If the polls stay where they are, the GOP is going to get their asses kicked in November. And they will blame Mitt. It's not Mitt's fault. He is the symptom, not the problem. Calling 47% of Americans losers is nothing new. Turn on Bill O or Sean Hannity any nite and you will hear them preaching this absolute hatred and vitriol for anyone that votes for Democrats. And it's a shame. Although the Republican party offers nothing to a die-hard liberal like myself, I do believe that this country needs *at the minimum* two political parties to debate the important issues that effect our lives - but that debate has to occur with rational people, which are lacking in DC today. When this election is over, and the Republicans get their asses handed to them on a platter and they realize it is time to rebuild the party, the place they should start with is Faux news. rant over! ![]()

4. FAUX News (pbbth!) We need TRUTH IN "advertising" laws to apply. If it ain't news, can't say it is.
Ya' know, because the DEMs have worked so hard at trying to understand the other side and reach across the isle, we've expanded our party's awareness. We debate pretty severely among ourselves over a lot of issues and play devil's advocate in some situations.
Although the Republican party offers nothing to a die-hard liberal like myself, I do believe that this country needs *at the minimum* two political parties to debate the important issues that effect our lives - but that debate has to occur with rational people, which are lacking in DC today. I wonder if "Independents" in the vein of Bernie Saunders will become more numerous. There is a guy I could vote for, even if he is retiring. |

7. You're 100% right.
It's really sad to see people manipulated so, most of them think they're informed and forming their own opinions.
I know several people in person and several entire message boards where you know what their opinion is going to be on any issue, it's whatever FOX tells them it should be. What's really bizarre is the way they manage to get people to take both sides of an argument depending on who it benefits politically. Deficits don't matter, then they trump everything. Nation-building is stupid, then it's essential. Democracy in the middle east is worth any price, then it's treason to make a phone call in its favor. FOX is going to get Americans killed, well it already does but I mean directly from whipping up outrage and intentionally misleading people. They build their nightmare piece by piece...it's so similar to the Islamic outrage industry it would be funny if it weren't so deadly serious. The right is wound so tight right now I worry a bit about what will happen in Nov. |

What sucks though is that they are so intertwined and woven into the republican machine in some symbiotic relationship as to be forever inseparable. The GOP is simply going to have to die a natural death of steady marginalization. You led off your post with If I was a Republican, what I would be upset about is Fox News. Not Romney The reality is, If you, I, we, were a Republican, we certainly would not be speaking so clinically and especially in any other way that could be remotely critical of "our" resounding soapbox of fox news.

But then I wonder - is it possible that some viewers would pause for a reality check? Granted, its unlikely, but it is possible. Don't believe it?
All it will take is for the board of directors to decide that FOX "News" is not only an embarrassment but hurts the image and the bottom line of their TV Network and of 20 Century Fox. They only have about 2 million viewers. "Storage Wars" gets higher ratings. |

"When this election is over, and the Republicans get their asses handed to them on a platter and they realize it is time to rebuild the party, the place they should start with is Faux news. "
Well this would be great for us all, as it would augur a returning to sanity, but I don't see the TP/Republicans realizing any such thing, not now, maybe never. They seem to be on a runaway train, taken over or inextricably influenced by ever increasing screeds and lunacy, flights into disassociated reality, by certain media figures, and we all can guess who they are. As long as their minds are being willingly pumped with this cognitive and emotional poison, nothing is going to change. It is distressing to have 'lost' several family members to this disease. They will speak normally, but then burst out with this angry, vile, hateful, regurgitated, fact less, unspecific nonsense, they seem to have become possessed. It's weird. They didn't used to be like that, but they are nigh unreachable now. I say this as can be an indicator of how potent and vigorous the poison pumps are. A mere drubbing in an election won't do it -- that would imply logic, and possible concomitant adjustment of beliefs -- not gonna happen, I'm afraid. |

It has to be frightening for those sorts to hold so many "truths" inside as they wonder why "you" are so deluded. The only way to stop them isnt beating the election, that will just slow them down.
What needs to be done is something has to stop fox from providing the GOP with free PR under the lie of it being "news", I just wish some memos or emails would turn up proving what many of us suspect which is that they have been actively collaborating with the party or say was doing illegal wiretapping here in the US to provide republican candidates with intel because then the feds might be able to step in and dismantle the entire network. |

The party has pretty much been friendly to types such as the Birchers and racist groups , such as the White Citizens Council.. Members such as Trent Lott played footsie with the White Citizens Council.. In the 50's the Birchers were kept in the closets , but the right such as x Sen. Robert Taft found much to agree with them.. Eisenhower was a Communist to those types..
. There are those in the GOP who will put on a centrist halo, but don't be sure that is their true self.. Moderates such as Susan Collins and Christine Todd Whitman have pretty much given up.. Sen Thune of SD might put on moderate airs, but check out his voting record before you put much stock in his claim. |

30. I've always believed that Faux and talk radio were ultimately counterproductive to conservativism
If you want to put a stop to the crazies, just give them a microphone and they will do it for you. They manage to provide red meat for the closet bigots, religious fanatics, gun nuts, and looneytarians, (who are going to vote against Democrats no matter what anyway), but what they really do is expose their nuttiness and drive away the moderates.
I think the real danger lies with the bullying of the main stream media. When legitimate journalists are afraid to call bullshit on the craziness for fear of being labeled unfair, something is seriously wrong. Dan Rather gets fired for one story that gets spun against him, yet Faux "journalists" are free to lie about Clinton and Obama all day long every day. |

37. Yep Faux news has basically whipped up GOP voters
into bloodthirsty savages and religious nutjobs.
In fact there is very little difference between the savage murderers of Christopher Stevens and a lot of regular Faux viewers and talking heads. You could also have mentioned that Faux lied through their teeth about Romney, about how terrible a candidate he actually is and what an appalling track record he has. Faux are still blatantly lying about Romney's chances. Obama is going to show Faux viewers some of the truth about Romney in the next few weeks. He certainly hasn't made enough yet about his appalling track record and the mountains of dirt. A lot of GOP voters are going to wake up with terrible hangovers on November 7th. From drowning their sorrows. If they are stupid enough to nominate someone like Romney they deserve all that they get. Let's take as many Senate and House seats as possible. There has a been an even more noticeable swing to Dems in this area than the Presidential race, since the convention. Very very little anti Mitt stuff has been aired to the overwhelming majority of the general public so far. (It's all widely available on the net.) Here is some of it (about 101 reasons not to vote Romney - sure there are another 100 reasons as well). The case against Mitt Romney http://ian56.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/the-case-against-mitt-romney.html This article (included in the above) is written to wind up GOP candidates. Not only of Fox bad for the Republican party, it is also bad for the democrats, but not in the obvious way. Yes, Fox hammers liberals, but what that does is make sure the only dems that have a chance of winning are BLUE DOGS.
Let us be honest, Jon Huntsman is not that far off from a Centrist Blue Dog. Indeed, if he left the GOP, there would be calls to embrace him, the way Charlie Crist was embraced. Let us be honest: while Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are way more liberal the the GOP, they are much closer to the right than what used to be the Democrats. They are still far to the left of RayGun, but FDR would probably scream at both of them. So, we have a one party system, that has effectively compromised BOTH parties. Meanwhile, what do the Rich care? The Rich are not even allied to apartiuclar nation anymore, as everywhere from Paris to New York to Australia is just another Hotelroom, the way it is for none other than Rupert Murdoch. |

42. Absolutely correct
The GOP is void of grass roots except for Fox lemmings. If there was no Fox, there would not be nearly the number of crazy, extreme politicians infesting government.
The GOP is propped up by corporate money and a propaganda network. Thats it. The people that hold political office for Fox Lemmings are typically horrible at legislation. It is most easily seen at the state level. Every once in awhile, one of them bubbles up to the national level and is quickly beat down for their craziness. This is why Mitt is the nominee. He was the last man standing. There is a reason why he was considered the most electable for them. The others were really, really bad. The common denominator is that they all tow the Fox line. |
