Florida Man Joins Too Many Other Florida People at FSU Football Game in Obviously Too Crowded......(Deadspin) Yes, college football is back, and so are fans packing the stands… Or at least in the Sunshine State. Would we expect anything different? As Florida State experienced a rain delay against Georgia Tech, you wouldn’t be able to tell because the stadium visibly was over 50 percent full — well over the 20-25 percent limit they announced would be a game-day crowd this season. It’s a global pandemic going on, but what the heck… people need their college football, right? ............(more) https://deadspin.com/florida-man-joins-too-many-other-florida-people-at-flor-1845038199

1. This is the deep South
If people have to die for football, so be it. Gotta get those priorities right.

2. The Fascination With It Eludes Me
I don't follow minor league baseball, either.
College football is a minor league the NFL doesn't have to pay for. Then it became a multibillion enterprise on its own. I truly don't get being that into a lower quality version of the game. |

4. Except that it's way, way, way more fun to watch than the NFL.

14. Not To Me, It Isn't
It's slow, the coaches & their precious systems are far too important, it's extremely predictable, and the athletes are being exploited.
That last point really sticks in my throat. There's no fun in watching players get chewed up & spit out, far too often. |

5. Going to minor league games makes sense
Games are closer, tickets cheap and for me a game is only an excuse to take an afternoon off, sit with some friends outside and drink beer.
I’m not much of a sports fan but it does have its uses. ![]() Edit to add: not in a pandemic though. Duh. |

13. Only The Cost
I get that. We've got a minor league baseball team in the city of 160,000 around 20 miles north of us.
Been to one game. Nice park, good seating, very affordable. But, I don't follow the team or the leagues overall. And, it's still an inferior product. I don't watch college baseball either, & my undergrad was from a school that has won over a dozen Div 2 or NAIA world series! I don't even watch college basketball until March, and that's much more because I'm looking for the guys I'm going to be seeing soon in the NBA. But, the cost driver is big, I agree. |

15. Part of the draw is that you can become part of a warrior tribe
You get to become one of the team and share in their glory and suffer in their defeats. Humans, like dogs, like to run in packs.

17. That's The Draw For A Fan Of Anything, Though
You're right, but that's not unique to college football.
You're explaining why fans are attracted to a team, & I agree with that. But, what I don't get is the gigantic interest in an inferior form of the game. |

6. I caught a few minutes of a game this afternoon.
Looked like the people in attendance and the band were distanced, but is 6 feet enough distance from wind instruments? People on the sidelines all had masks on, but then they showed some closeups of the field and I could see that none of the players had masks on. I get that it would be difficult to play with a mask on, but there they are crashing into each other and breathing really heavy after running—a recipe for disaster.

9. They're Test Cases
We'll see if any get real sick and/or die. Then they'll make up excuses as to how unexpected it was that there was an outbreak.

16. Social distancing
Do you think that when they were filing in and out of the stadium they all kept 6' apart? I seriously doubt it. A thunderstorm came up during that game, and the vast majority sought shelter in the covered passageways. I doubt we will see those photos.

See who isn't in the hospital or dead then.

10. Saw a little. Interesting that band had some kind of filter around the horn
bell. I guess that is like a mask or something.
