Every time Romney gets an opportunity to reset the narrative of the election, he makes some psychologically revealing mistake. Giving Clint Eastwood his spotlight, rattling a rubber saber over a tweet from the US embassy in Cairo while it was under attack, writing off half of all American voters as moochersyou only have to tilt your head to see each of these gaffes as a cry for help. And Republicans themselves are grumbling about Romneys skimpy schedule of public events, where real voters might take his measure and enthusiasm for a ground campaign could be generated.

(7,774 posts)he has millions to spend and he thinks he can buy it like he buys everything else. He can't win over voters because he is a miserable prick with the social skills and charisma of a steaming pile of dog shit. The only reason he isn't in prison is because he is rich. I would hate to see what he is capable of if he had to interact with everyday people. Not up to the job!

(19,356 posts)These from a thread a DU thread yesterday:
--He filed at least one tax return which, if revealed, apparently would drastically undermine his chances of being elected (and may even expose him to legal action) simply to become richer than he already was.
--He continually undercuts his campaign's possible momentum with gaffs and/or unconsidered actions.
--He appears unable to regain his balance.
--He follows contrary and shifting advice as though constantly discovering a new way to take the helm (e.g., jumping the Cairo shark in the middle of the riots after Republican commentators had urged him to be bold).
--He is unable to stay focused, on message.
--He is absent from the campaign trail for extended periods (most recently for 5 days, which commentates note is rare for this time in the campaign, but sporatically throughout the summer as well, "prepping for debates," he said).

I'd never heard that one before.

(10,133 posts)I think they're novice job hunter mistakes: Romney's never had a job he had to go out and get by himself - without counting on his ins with a governor father or Harvard MBA or high-ranking Mormon connections - and he just doesn't know how to sell himself. He's used to being deferred to, to always getting his way, and now people are asking him to give them a good reason to vote for him instead of the other guy - especially the kind of people he'd ordinarily enjoy firing.
Oh, he wants it, maybe even more than Ann does. He's just playing the game by his rules instead of the actual ones, and he's losing because in the real world you can't just start out on 3rd base.

(89,247 posts)but one difference is that the other gop candidates were not that impressive. but look at how they went from one to another giving anyone but romney a chance.
also if gingrich and santorum had not split the vote and one of them had dropped out iti s likely that one of them would have won the nomination.
and now in the GE he is running against Obama who is a great candidate. even ifpeople may not be happy with things theyd on't see him as being at fault. they do think positively of him and what he wants to do for the country.
